Sheridan Christian Church News for August 8, 2012

What a sad hard week last week was. We are all so sorry and sad for the Hibbs family. What a huge outpouring of love from the whole community at the visitation and funeral for Todd! The church ladies appreciated all the food donated by the CBC club and individuals for the dinner after the funeral. Jeff Blaine called several times from Texas where he and his family were on vacation. He hated to be gone as Todd was a dear friend. We know the Hibbs family felt the love and prayers of everyone. I felt like the showers on Saturday morning were tears from God as I’m sure He was crying too.
Nathan Smith from Narrow Road Ranch Ministries from Coffeyville, KS did a great job filling in for Jeff last Sunday. He had two of his amazingly trained dogs in church and had a powerful sermon on obedience. We ate lunch at Mary Beth’s cafe with him and Vern Mitchell, where he had spent the night before. Elaine was on a short trip to Arkansas with a girl friend from Clarinda.
Our granddaughter, Brooke (Hann) VanHulten left for Germany last Sunday. She will be stationed there for two years. She is in the Military Police with the US Army. Her husband, Andrew, will be going there too in about a month. He’s an MP too. We’re so, so thankful that God answered our prayers that they could be stationed together.
Congratulations to our nephew, Henry and his new wife Amanda, who were married in the round barn at the Taylor County Museum in Bedford last Saturday night. They are building a new home just north of us on the Rowen home place. Our love and best wishes to them and their family!
New Sunday School classes for adults will be starting this Sunday on being a “Follower,” not just a “Fan” of Jesus. Jeff’s sermon series will be on the same subject. It would be a great chance for anyone seeking him to come join us! Church services are at 9, followed by Sunday School around 10:30.
Remember the End of Summer Pool Party from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, August 18th at the Grant City Pool. The church provides the meat. Bring a favorite dish or dessert to share. Everyone is welcome to attend.
