Worth County’s track teams swept the Stanberry Invitational Friday, with the girls edging out DeKalb and the boys edging out King City. The invitational was split up this year, with half the teams competing in Stanberry and half the teams, including Worth County, Northeast Nodaway, and North Nodaway, competing in King City.
The girls had 128 points, followed by DeKalb with 102. North Andrew had 93, St. Joseph Christian 63, South/Nodaway-Holt 50, King City 44, NEN 39, North Nodaway 17, and West Nodaway 4.
The boys had 162 team points and King City had little competition for second, with 135 points. South/Nodaway-Holt had 58, NEN had one of their highest finishes in recent memory with 48, Maryville 32, West Nodaway 30, North Andrew 15, St. Joseph Christian 10, DeKalb 6, and North Nodaway 5.
For the girls, Rebecca Smith showed a lot of improvement for the Tigers in the 200, in which she finished second with a time of 29.88. The Tigers were 2-3 in the 400 with Hailey Adwell getting 1:08.25 and Braidy Hunt third with 1:08.72. Morgan Beagle was second in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 17.44, and Brooklyn Richardson was fourth with a time of 18.16. Aivry Griffin was second in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 1:00.91.
The 4x100 team of Hailey Adwell, Morgan Beagle, Brooklyn Richardson, and Rebecca Smith was second with a time of 55.89. The 4x200 team of Hailey Adwell, Morgan Beagle, Brooklyn Richardson, and Rebecca Smith won with a time of 1:57.45. The 4x400 team of Hailey Adwell, Morgan Beagle, Brooklyn Richardson, and Braidy Hunt was second with a time of 4:51.68.
The Tigers were 1-2 in the Pole Vault with Keelin Engel winning with a height of 2.92 meters, while Paige Sherer had a runner-up height of 1.57 meters. Rebecca Smith was fourth in the Long Jump with a jump of 3.96 meters, while Aivry Griffin was fifth with a time of 3.93 meters. Braidy Hunt was third in the Triple Jump with a jump of 9.19 meters. Kara-Jean Staton was second in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.39 meters. Ali Brown was fourth with a throw of 9.05 meters. Kara-Jean Staton was second in the Discus with a throw of 28.43 meters, while Taylor Sanders was fifth with a throw of 22.08 meters. Ali Brown was second in the Javelin with a throw of 27.15 meters, while Autumn Cousatte was sixth with a throw of 20.55 meters.
On the boys side, Aydan Gladstone was third in the 100 with a time of 11.89 while Braxton Hightshoe was fifth with a time of 12.52. Nate Adwell was second in the 200 with a time of 24.97, while Timothy Richardson was sixth with a time of 27.14. Levi Cassavaugh won the 400 with a time of 57.97. Tyler New was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:34.61.
Worth County continued to dominate the hurdle events on the boys side. Jace Cousatte was first in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 17.16, followed by Aydan Gladstone with a time of 17.66. Cousatte also won the 300 Hurdles with a time of 47.03, while Gladstone was second with a time of 49.35.
The 4x100 team of Aydan Gladstone, Nate Adwell, Levi Cassavaugh, and Jace Cousatte was second with a time of 48.35. The 4x200 team of John Galanakis, Brent Harris, Levi Cassavaugh, and Braxton Hightshoe was second with a time of 1:43.06. The 4x400 team of Nate Adwell, Levi Cassavaugh, Brent Harris, and John Galanakis won with a time of 4:10.93.
The Tigers were 2-3 in the High Jump as John Galanakis was second with a jump of 1.70 meters, while Braxton Hightshoe was third with a jump of 1.65 meters. The Tigers were 1-2 in the Pole Vault with Nate Adwell winning with a vault of 3.95 meters, while Aydan Gladstone was second with a vault of 3.20 meters. The Tigers were 3-4 in the Long Jump as Brent Harris was third with a jump of 5.28 meters, while Timothy Richardson was fourth with a jump of 5.05 meters. The Tigers were 2-3 in the Triple Jump with Jace Cousatte second with a jump of 10.78 meters, and Tyler New third with a jump of 10.41 meters.
In the throwing events, Jase Latham was fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.02 meters. Jackson Runde was second in the Discus with a throw of 31.35 meters, while Jase Latham was sixth with a throw of 26.49 meters. Tyler New was fifth in the Javelin with a throw of 29.50 meters, while John Galanakis was sixth with a throw of 26.95 meters.
