Courthouse News for April 7th, 2021

On March 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Tyrese Fay (19) of Urbana (IA) in Nodaway County on a charge of Driving While Suspended and a Nodaway County Warrant for Failure to Appear (Fishing Without Permit).

On March 30th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Craig Ingram (46) of Kansas City alleging Driving While Revoked and No Insurance.

On March 31st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Wayne Smith (31) of Maryville alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). 

On April 1st, an Ellston (IA) man reported the theft of a 2018 Honda Rancher ATV and three portable ice shacks.

On April 1st, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jason Fitzgerald (42) of Lenox on a charge of Violation of Protection Order. Bond was set at $300, cash only.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department posted the following news release about a police chase that occurred near Lenox on April 1st:

On April 1, 2021, Deputies located two vehicles with their lights off parked on a bridge near the intersection of 120th Street and Rockwood Avenue southwest of Lenox. When Deputies arrived the vehicles began to drive away. Deputies attempted to stop both vehicles for stopping in the traveled portion of the roadway. When Deputies initiated their emergency lights and sirens, a Red 2000 Chevrolet K1500 took off at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was pursued through rural Taylor and Adams Counties in excess of 85 miles per hour on gravel, level B and C roads.  

Deputies additionally executed a search warrant in the 100 block of East Kansas Street in relation to this pursuit. Following the search warrant, K9 deployments and subsequent investigation the following were charged: 

Kason Hulett, 19, of Lenox was charged with possession with intent to deliver, marijuana, driving while revoked (OWI offenses) and felony eluding along with other traffic related citations. Hulett is being held at the Taylor County Sheriff's Office on $12,000 cash only bond until seen by a Magistrate. 

Jessie Martin, 19, of Lenox was charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. She is being held at the Taylor County Sheriff's Office on $1,000 bond until seen by a Magistrate. 

Deputies were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Adams and Union County Deputies and Creston Police Department. 

On April 2nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jacob Maize (18) of Bethany in Harrison County on charges of DWI (Drugs with Serious Physical Injury, Felony), and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On April 3rd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Eric Damgar (46) of Barnard in Nodaway County on charges of DWI and Speeding.

On April 3rd, a runaway cow, which escaped from a trailer, got loose on Interstate 285 in Dunwoody (GA), which is west of Atlanta. The cow swerved through traffic as vehicles attempted to slow down and people attempted unsuccessfully to corner it. It took several officers and a citizen with a rope to finally corral the cow. There was a crash in the area, and at one point, three lanes on the highway were closed.

On April 3rd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Grant Bellemore (32) of Kansas City alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). Bond was denied.

On April 3rd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Lisa Coots (36) of Barnard alleging two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). Bond was set at $30,000, cash or corporate surety.

On April 4th, a New Hampton man reported that someone had stolen his trash barrel cover.

On April 5th, a Worth County resident reported that a pickup drove into a mailbox near Parnell on Route 46 and then drove off.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
