Obituary -- Delores Sowards 1935-2021

Delores Mae Sowards, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 4th, 2021, at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA, after a prolonged hospitalization. She was born June 30, 1935 in Portland, OR to Fred and Thelma Kluser.

Delores was raised in Portland, where she also met and married the love of her life, Wilmer D. Sowards on May 15th, 1955. They welcomed two sons; in 1956 and 1961, respectively. She was a devoted Navy wife for nearly 20 years, following her husband to various locations throughout the US until they eventually settled in Edmonds, WA, where she would reside for over 50 years.

She was a devout Christian, and centered her life around her faith and church. She loved to sing, and was actively involved in choir for as long as she was able. She was incredibly crafty, played a mean game of Scrabble, adored cats, was an avid collector of all things owl, and truly took pleasure in life’s simple moments. She was also a tremendously loving grandmother and loyal friend.

Delores is survived by her son, Richard Sowards Sr of Morton, WA; grandchildren Kristy Rutledge of Marysville, WA, Kandi Sowards of Washington, DC, Richard Sowards Jr of Edmonds, WA, Amanda Sowards of Lynnwood, WA; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilmer; brother, Richard Kluser; and son, Duane Sowards.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Delores will be interred next to her husband at Miller Cemetery in Denver, MO.  Burial under direction of Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, MO.
