James “Jim” Edward O’Connor was born on February 7, 1952 in Mount Ayr, Iowa and passed away at the age of 69 years old in the RCH hospital on April 10, 2021. He was the fourth child of Maurice G. O’Connor II and Ruby E. (Bickel) O’Connor.
Jim was raised in Maloy until the family moved to Bedford. Jim attended elementary school in Blockton, Iowa, Junior High in Conway, Iowa, and High School in Bedford, Iowa. He graduated from Bedford in 1970.
Jim was united in marriage to Selina Celia (Nelson) O’Connor on April 1, 1979 in Maryville, Missouri. They were married 42 years upon his death. To this union they raised five children; Poe, Bub, Billy, Leena, and Sammi Jo.
Jim was a self-employed carpenter, in Lenox, Iowa when the couple met. Then in August of 1979 was employed with Countryside Products in Hopkins, Missouri as a Propane Delivery Driver, then later continued serving “his” customers with Clarinda Co-op in Clarinda, Iowa. His love for his customers took him all over the country and allowed him to make many close friendships that he cherished. He retired in April of 2018.
He enjoyed hunting dogs and raising his trail riding mules. He loved family gatherings when everyone would get together, especially if he could stir the orneriness up in his grandkids. He also enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren perform/entertain him from the field, to the stage, to the families’ own living rooms.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Selina, and children; Poe (Jamie) O’Connor of Lenox, IA; James “Bub” (Lizza) O’Connor of New Market, IA; William “Billy Jack” O’Connor of Blockton,IA; Leena (Bill) Hightshoe of Kellerton, IA; Samantha “Sammi Jo”(Dennis) Elliott of Mt. Ayr, IA. Grandchildren; Jessica McClarnon, Brenda (Kole)Thompson, Jimmie O’Connor, William O'Connor, Paytan Hiatt, Brysen (Halee) Hightshoe, Brenden Hightshoe, Brett Coy Hightshoe, Braxton Hightshoe, Bridgette Hightshoe, Maci Jo Elliott, & Cameron Elliott.Great-grandchildren; Evelynn Thompson, & Korra Hightshoe. He also had special bonus grandchildren; Emily & Joel McPhee, Dora Martz, & Colt Cameron. Mother-in-law; Madelene Nelson, sister; Norma (Kelly) Butler, brother-in-laws; Jerry Larson, Jerry (Vickie) Nelson, nieces, nephews, and friends as family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; Maurice & Ruby O’Connor, sister; Maurine (Jane) Larson, brother; Maurice (Pat) O’Connor, Father-in-law; Ronnie Nelson, Brother-in-law; Mike Wilmes, and his angel baby grandson; Ethan O’Connor.
