Obituary -- Carroll (Bud) Olney 1935-2018

Carroll (Bud) Eugene Olney was born at home to Carl Eugene and Vane Lillian Olney in Redding, IA on December 20, 1935. He went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2018 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, IA under Hospice care with his family by his side.

He was born at home east of Jackson Corner in Redding, IA. He was the oldest of several siblings. He helped on the farm and attended school in Redding.  He played basketball in high school before graduating in 1955.

Over the years, he learned a lot of different trades. He attended one semester of college in Creston, IA. He worked Road Construction with his brother Dean in South Dakota. He was drafted into the Army in Fort Hood, Texas as a tank mechanic. He moved to Chicago with his brother Dean, and with friend Doyle Schaffer to work in and ACME Steel Parts factory. They lived in the car until they were able to find and apartment. Twice he helped to save his brother Joe’s life. When Joe was 13, he fell asleep under a grain truck during combining season and was accidentally run over. He ran about a mile to get help for him.  The second time was while working for Booth Associates on construction. The neighbor in the trailer next to theirs was cleaning his .222 Rifle when he accidentally shot Joe in the trailer beside them. Carroll used his belt to create a tourniquet for his arm and got him the care he needed. He also worked at the Redding Phone Company and Hills Mechana in Creston, Iowa.  The majority of his adult life he spent working on the Olney Family Farm with other family members, where he later retired. He spent a lot of time helping his family and friends. Always fixing everything for everyone from tv’s to wheelchairs to vehicles to tractors and farm equipment. He was the guy to go to when whatever you had, didn’t work. While farming, it was not uncommon to see him come in from the field where all you could see were the whites of his eyes.

He was united in marriage to Bernie Brown and with this union came his daughter’s Teresa and Shelly Jo. Then later he was united in marriage to Janet Tibbetts and with this union came his children Michelle, Sheila, Raymond and Amber. He loved all of his children and would do anything he could to teach them and help then when they needed him. He loved picking on and playing with all of his grandchildren. He was also an honorary deacon at the Temple of Baptist Church in Maryville, Missouri where he, his daughter Michelle, and grandson Kyle were baptized together on July 9, 2000.

Preceding Carroll in death were his parents Carl Eugene and Vane Lillian Olney, brothers Marvin Olney, Evan Olney, and Rod Olney, sister Lila Bradley, and sister-in-law Rita Olney.  He will be remembered by his brothers, Dean Olney, Joe Olney (Gerri Uresk), Duane Olney, Dale Olney (Lou Shimer), Danny Olney (Maria Olney) and Kurt Olney (Mary Jo), sisters, Sherry Davidson (Bill Davidson), Nola Olney, Melody Withee. son, Raymond (Traci Olney), daughters, Teresa Olney (Kevin Stake), Shelly Olney, Michelle Risser (Chris Risser), Sheila Cassady (Rob Marinaro), Amber Olney, grandchildren, Daniel Keesis, Cody Robinson (Ashley), Kyle Puckett, Spencer Straight (Mindi), Jacob Cassady, Cassidy Olney (Ethan), Kasey Puckett, Kaitlin Puckett (Colton), Kameron Fulk, Klemit Olney, Cressa Olney, great grandchildren, Gavin Robinson, Westyn Puckett, Blakely Straight, brother-in-law Jim Bradley, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
