Worth County’s boys won districts Saturday, while the girls were second in Weston in another loaded field. For the boys, the Tigers edged out West Platte with 124 points to 119 for West Platte. Mound City had 67, East Atchison 64, South/Nodaway-Holt 64, Stanberry 49, Platte Valley 47, Stewartsville 41.5, North Andrew 34, Rock Port 28, Albany 24, St. Joseph Christian 23, NEN 21, King City 17, North/West Nodaway 8, and Union Star 6.
For the girls, West Platte had 135 points, running away with the meet. Worth County had just as little competition, taking second with 108.5. Stanberry had 69, Mound City 65, Rock Port 55, Platte Valley 53, St. Joseph Christian 48, King City 43, DeKalb 42, East Atchison 41, South/Nodaway-Holt 26, Albany 13.5, NEN 13, North/West Nodaway 12, Osborn 8, North Andrew 6, and Stewartsville 2.
Both High Jump athletes on the girls side matched personal bests. Anna Gladstone was second in the High Jump with a height of 5’2”. Liz Lyle was fourth with a height of 5’0”, also matching a personal best.
The Tigers placed three on the girls side in the Pole Vault, qualifying two since the top four individuals move on. Regan Allee won with a height of 9’6”, matching a personal best. Jessi Badell matched a personal best and tied for second with a height of 9’6”. Keelin Engel was fifth with a height of 8 feet. On the boys side, Nate Adwell qualified with a third place height of 12 feet. Jeremy Wimer got a personal best and got sixth with a height of 10 feet.
Anna Gladstone moved on in the Long Jump with a second place jump of 16’11”. Liz Lyle was sixth with a jump of 15’6½”. On the boys side, Worth County finished 1-2. Tevin Cameron won the Long Jump with a jump of 20’5”. Caleb Parman was second with a jump of 20’2”. Both were personal bests.
Liz Lyle was second in the Triple Jump with a jump of 32’11½”. On the boys side, Jaxon Anderson was second with a jump of 39’10½”. Caleb Parman was fourth with a jump of 39 feet. Both will move on.
The Tiger teams both cleaned up in the Discus. Merrideth Spiers won with a throw of 121 feet. Kennedy Galanakis was fourth with a throw of 96’8”. On the boys side, Drake Kinsella won with a personal best throw of 139’7”. Mason the Hawk was second with a throw of 129’9”.
Merrideth Spiers also won the Shot Put as she got a winning throw of 36’½”. For the boys, Drake Kinsella won with a throw of 47’5”, while Mason Hawk was third with a throw of 42’6”.
Tevin Cameron matched up with Stewartsville standout Gage Rush for the first time in the Javelin and finished second, getting a qualifying throw of 144’10” to Rush’s 148 feet. Jacob New was seventh with a throw of 124’7”.
The 4x800 girls team of Megan Cassavaugh, Jill Hardy, Braidy Hunt, and Allison Larison knocked 25 seconds off their time and got their best time all year, narrowly missing out on qualifying, getting a fifth place time of 10:36.76.
Anna Gladstone won the 100 Hurdles with a time of 16.31, one of her better times of the year. For the boys, Bryant McCord was second with a time of 15.60; he was edged out by Clayton Walker (Platte Valley) by five hundredths of a second.
In the 100, Jaxon Anderson moved on with a fourth place finish of 12.11. He edged out teammate Andrew Alarcon, who was right behind him with a time of 12.12, one hundredth of a second off.
The girls 4x100 team of Liz Lyle, Morgan Beagle, Jessi Badell, and Navada Hoff finished in a dead heat for fifth with Albany with a time of 55.40. All four of the teams ahead of them will graduate seniors, so they will be one of the top contenders next year. On the boys side, the 4x100 team of Tevin Cameron, Caleb Parman, Andrew Alarcon, and Bryant McCord won with a time of 45.75.
For the boys, Wayde Parman was seventh in the 400 with a time of 58.43.
In the girls 300 Hurdles, Abbie Hale (Rock Port) had little trouble winning, getting a time of 46.88. MiKenna Peters (West Platte) was second with a time of 48.81. There was a three way race to see who would qualify. Anna Gladstone made it, getting a personal best time of 49.87 and third place to move on. Emily Norman (West Platte) was fourth with a time of 50.33. Kristin Herndon (North/West Nodaway) got a personal best with a time of 50.86, but was edged out and got fifth. For the boys, Bryant McCord moved on, getting fourth with a time of 43.94.
Braidy Hunt was sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:37.72. Four of the five girls who finished ahead of her graduate, making her one of the top contenders in that event next year.
For the boys, Daniel Craven was sixth in the 3200 with a time of 11:59.61.
The girls 4x400 team of Jessi Badell, Megan Cassavaugh, Jill Hardy, and Braidy Hunt was sixth with a time of 4:53.59. The boys team of Wayde Parman, Ryan McClellan, Andrew Alarcon, and Caleb Parman was sixth with a time of 4:00.32.
