Robert B. Henry, 84, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018 surrounded by family at Life Care Nursing Home, Seneca, KS.
Bob was born on November 27, 1933, the son of Hedwig (Waller) and Joseph A. Henry, Sr. He grew up by Corning, attending school there and graduating in 1951 from Corning High School.
The summer after graduation, Bob and Danny Henry went to Akron, Ohio to work on a dairy farm. Bob then worked at the Conception Abbey in Conception, MO and Sunshine Biscuit Co. in Kansas City, KS. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Brokamp on November 13, 1957 at St. Bede’s Church in Kelly, KS. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Bob and Mary Ann moved from Kansas City, KS back to a farm west of Kelly to start a dairy farm in early 1960. Bob and Frank Brokamp helped each other farming. Bob retired from running a dairy farm in 1996 at which time he went to work at Terrace Heights doing maintenance for 10 1/2 years. The couple moved to Seneca in August 2008. Bob went to Life Care in July 2016.
Bob was a member of St. Bede’s Church and the Seneca Knights of Columbus Council 1769.
Bob enjoyed time with his family the most, and also playing many different card games such as 10-point pitch, “Schafskopf” known as Sheephead and Kings on the Corner, Rummy-O, playing Bingo at the Knights of Columbus and going to Golden Eagle Casino. He also enjoyed numerous bus tour trips.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Sr and Hedwig Henry; three children, Gerard 1963, Janet 1964 and Mary Louise 1969; a grandson, Joseph Kramer 1984; four brothers, Joe Jr, Donald, Richard and Regis; and one sister, Edith Rombeck.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, at home, Diane (Steve) Flanders, Topeka, Jeanie (Clete) Kramer, Seneca, and Glen (Cheryl) Henry, Netawaka; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with two to arrive in 2018; five brothers, Francis (Frenchy), Wetmore, Larry, Kansas City, KS, Kenny, Topeka, and Jim and Dennis, Seneca, one sister, Mary Jo Barrett, Pineville, NC, and many nieces and nephews including Theresa (Henry) Schmitz of Ravenwood and Mary (Henry) Collins of Conception Junction.
Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM at the Lauer Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly on April 11, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at St. Bede’s Cemetery, Kelly, KS.
Memorials are to be designated for St. Bede’s Catholic church and sent in care of the family.
