Bernard L. Myer was born June 11, 1928 in Willard , Colorado to Glen E. Myer and Bertha Kilmer Myer. He passed away September 2, 2017 in Grant City, Missouri at the age of 89 years. Bernie spent his youth in Nebraska , southwestern Iowa and the Fort Dodge , Iowa area graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1946. He met Irene Selk at his brother’s wedding and soon they were married. They had 5 children. Bernie pursued a career in mechanical contracting for various companies and started his own businesses including the very successful Myer and Sons Plumbing and Heating in Mt Ayr, Iowa.
In 1973 Bernie came to Missouri to view an 80 acre property that he immediately loved and bought where he built a home and cabin and pursued his lifelong dream of farming with a little fishing on the side. Missouri became his home for the rest of his life and the people he met his friends forever.
Bernie is survived by his second wife Joyce, children Ginger (Brent) Cox, Susan, Shirlee Doster, Scott (Lori), step children Lyle Officer, Lorna Lawrance, and brother Kenneth. He leaves also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, his son Steven, his brothers Leonard, Lyle and sister Lois Wiseman.
A visitation at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral will be on September 6 from 1:00-3:00 with burial to follow at Kirk Cemetery in Allendale. A gathering to celebrate Bernie's life will be scheduled and announced at a future date.
