Adcock Fourth in Nation in Decathlon

Nick Adcock, MU Sophomore Decathlete, competing against 25 athletes takes home 4th. place at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship held in rain soaked Des Moines, Iowa June 11-14, 2008.
With water rising, the decathlon events started Wednesday with rain starting to fall, lightning started filling the sky at the end of the 100 meter dash event, as soon as it was completed everyone was advised to leave the stands and field. The events continued some 2&1/2 hours later with the long jump, shot put, high jump and finishing up with the 400 meter dash. Adcock's times & distances for day one were 11:18 for the 100 meter dash, 22' 6 &1/2 " for the long jump, 44' 3&1/2" for the shot put, 6' 6&1/4" for the high jump and 48.88 for the 400 meter dash, earning a personal record in the shop put and earning 3,963 points, a little over 100 points less than in Colorado at the The Big 12 for day 1.
Day 2 started with much improved weather conditions, events were the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meter run. Adcock's times and distances for day 2 were 14.59 in the 110 meter hurdles, 122' 9" for the discus, 15' 1" in the pole vault, 175' for the javelin and finishing 4:35.53 in the 1500 meter run, finishing the meet with a score of 7,612. Adcock earned a personal best in the discus, pole vault and 1500 meter run. Adcock's team mate Lars Rise (Trondheim, Norway) placed 7th in the events.
Adcock went into the meet ranked 9th in the Nation. He has had a great season with winning The Big 12 Indoor Championship in the Heptathlon Events (7events) in Lincoln, Nebraska, he placed 4th at the NCAA Indoor Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas which earned him his first All America Honor, Adcock placed 2nd at The Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Boulder, Colorado and Adcock earned his 2nd All American Honor taking 4th place at the NCAA Outdoor Championship at Des Moines, Iowa June 12, 2008.
Adcock will be the youngest (20 years old) decathlete to compete at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon the end of June.
Adcock also earned "The Derrick Peterson Award", the award is given annually to the MU Track & Field athlete with the most outstanding performance on the men's team as demonstrated by their achievements throughout the current season.
Adcock is the son of Gary & Sue Adcock (Kansas City, Missouri) Grandson of Carl & Virginia Adcock (Bethany, Missouri) and Galen & Betty Ruckman (Grant City, Missouri.
