Obituary -- Brian Pigg 1986-2021

Brian Edward Pigg, 35, of Albany, Missouri, passed away September 6, 2021, at Mosaic Life Care in Albany.  Brian was born July 11, 1986, in Albany, the son of Allen and Peggy (Blessing) Pigg.

He worked in maintenance for the Missouri Department of Transportation and for several local farmers.  He attended the Knox Presbyterian Church.

Survivors:  parents, Allen and Peggy Pigg, Worth, MO; sons, Denver and Carter Pigg, Albany; Cactus Pigg, Bethany; sister, Amanda (Brian) Shannon, Council Bluffs, IA; brother, Randy Pigg, Worth; maternal grandmother, Sue Blessing, New Hampton; paternal grandfather, Edward Pigg, Worth; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Blessing and paternal grandmother, Betty Pigg.

Courthouse News for September 8th, 2021

 On August 30th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Justin Beebe (29) of Helena (MO) alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident).

On August 30th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Treyton Paris (21) of Maryville alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident).

On September 1st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Theresa Keever (43) of Skidmore alleging DWI (Felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony), and Assault (Felony). Bond was set at $50,000, cash or corporate surety.

On September 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Shaun Davidshofer (39) of Coin in Nodaway County on charges of Driving While Revoked, Following Too Closely, and a Nodaway County Warrant for Failure to Appear (Traffic Violation).

On September 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jarrett DePriest (38) of Bethany in Harrison County on charges of DWI, Speeding (26+ mpg over), and Failure to Comply with Ignition Interlock Requirement.

On September 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Russell Troutwine (62) of Sheridan in Worth County on charges of DWI (Felony), Driving While Revoked (Felony), Failure to Equip Vehicle with Two Tail Lights, Unlawfully Operate UTV on Highway, and Failure to Signal. On September 2nd, Special Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges. Bond was set at $25,000, cash or corporate surety, posted by the defendant.

On September 2nd, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Jeffrey Runion (32) of Maryville alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident).

On September 2nd, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department reported that Jerry Haley of Mount Ayr was operating a 1996 International Truck on Route 2 when a tire exploded, causing the vehicle to strike a bridge rail, causing $10,000 damage to the truck.

On September 3rd, the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office sent the following news release about a man required to repay a Missouri investor:

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s Securities Division issued a consent order against Cryotherm USA, Inc., John (Jianxin) Wang and Dennis R. Di Ricco after issuing more than $2 million in unregistered, non-exempt promissory notes.

Between December 1, 2015, and October 31, 2020, the Florida-based Cryotherm USA sold the promissory notes through a Las Vegas, Nevada-based unregistered broker-dealer, Retire Happy, LLC. The securities were sold to investors across the country, including one in Rolla, Missouri. 

Following the sale of notes to investors, those involved engaged in a fraudulent scheme over a period of more than two years, during which the company generated no business revenue, circulated some investors’ funds back to other investors in the form of bogus monthly interest payments and misappropriated a majority of the remaining funds for their own personal benefit. 

On October 19, 2020, after the division had opened an investigation into Cryotherm and engaged respondents, the respondents paid the full amount of principal and interest owed to the Missouri investor.

Without admitting or denying the allegations, respondents paid $75,000 to the Missouri Investor Education and Protection Fund.

On September 3rd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Tyler Lupfer (26) of McFall in Harrison County on charges of DWI and Speeding (99 mph).

On September 3rd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Melanie Lear (52) of Mound City alleging Peace Disturbance. Bond was set at $1,000 Signature Bond.

On September 5th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jonathan Deinhart (29) of Cameron in Nodaway County alleging DWI, Speeding, and No Plates.

On September 5th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against William Walker (27) of Stanberry alleging Domestic Assault.

On September 6th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Amani Swedi (24) of Fort Worth (TX) in Harrison County on a charge of Speeding (113 mph).

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Bo Knows -- Quick Strike Sparks Junior High Tigers Past Panthers

Brayden Stevens aired one out to Bo Collins at the start of the game, leading him perfectly down the field on a 58 yard strike, and the Worth County Junior High Tigers scored early and often in beating Pattonsburg 54-6 Tuesday. Collins also added the extra points to make it 8-0 right off the bat.

Pattonsburg nearly matched the effort as Wyatt Maize ran back the ensuing kickoff to the Tiger 7 after the kickoff coverage overran him. But the Tigers would make a goal line stand as Brayden Murphy would drag Maize down at the 7, another crack by Maize only got one to the six as Murphy and Franklin Hoff dropped him, and back to back sacks from Bo Collins and Brayden Murphy killed the drive. 

Two plays later, Worth County was off to the races again as Franklin Hoff took a perfectly executed counter to the house from 53 yards out. Brayden Stevens threw a strike to Caleb New to make it 16-0.

Panther quarterback Camden Griffith showed some potential as he was able to scramble for 8, and then 10 yards as the Panthers got as far as the Tiger 32. But then Bo Collins blew up a running play with a perfectly times blitz, and then Lucas Frisch got a sack. Griffith picked up five yards and an offsides penalty moved it to the Tiger 30 for fourth and eight, but then Collins closed quickly on a sweep and knocked Griffith out of bounds at the 28 as the Tigers took over on downs.

Caleb New bulldozed his way seven yards to the 35 and then Brayden Stevens picked up 11 more to the Panther 34. Hoff then bounced outside and down the left side of the field with 6:33 left in the second to make it 22-0.

Lucas Frisch got another sack for the Tigers and Bo Collins added a body slam on Griffith as the Tigers forced a three and out. The kick was shanked and Franklin Hoff returned it to the Pattonsburg 34. Brayden Stevens took a keeper nine yards to the 25, Caleb New picked up 14 more off a counter to the 11, and then Bo Collins pushed his own blocker out of the way and got to the one. That set up Brayden Stevens' rush for a score with 1:54 left. Stevens optioned it into the end zone to make it 30-0.

Sawyer Thurman added a sack right before halftime and Caleb New shot a gap perfectly to blow up another play right before half.

Brayden Murphy got another sack to force a three and out, and the kick was shanked to give Worth County good field position at the 40. Caleb New took an option pitch 13 yards to the Panther 27 and then Bo Collins took a counter to the house with 4:13 left. Franklin Hoff ran in the extra points following a block from Brayden Murphy to make it 38-0.

Murphy had another tackle for loss, and Lucas Frisch shot a gap perfectly to get another to force another three and out. The Tigers started at their own 37 and Caleb New took an option four yards to the Panther 39. Worth County began putting their subs in, and Hayden Sanders ripped off a gain of 14 and then wove his way to the 5. From there, Cole Ruby took it the rest of the way with 29 seconds left in the third quarter and ran in the extra points to make it 46-0.

Pattonsburg finally started finding daylight as Gavin Humphrey ripped off a 15 yarder to the Tiger 35 to convert a fourth and long, and then Griffith scrambled his way for 25 to convert another fourth and long to the 10. A few plays later, Griffith scrambled his way into the end zone from 12 yards out with 1:05 left to kill the running clock. But Brayden Stevens ran back the ensuing squib kick for a score, Hayden Sanders ran in the extra points, and then Franklin Hoff recovered the ensuing squib kick, allowing the Tigers to kill the clock.

The Junior Varsity beat LeBlond 60-8 in the nightcap. The Tigers took a 36-8 lead at the half, and then made some stands deep in their own territory defensively, as LeBlond was able to move the ball against the Tigers, but couldn't get in. They were able to pull away in the second half as Grant McIntyre was the quickest guy on the field for the Tigers, ripping off a 67 yard run in which he bounced outside and then back down the middle. Landon Wilmes showed a knack for finding holes, while Tyler New showed a lot more muscle from last year and was delivering the blows. LeBlond kept trying to move through the air, but the Tigers were able to get good pressure upfront and disrupt the timing. 

Taylor Sanders Walks it Off Against Stanberry

Taylor Sanders got a walkoff triple against Stanberry Tuesday as the Tiger softball team got back on the winning track with a 9-8 win over the Bulldogs. They had suffered through a tough luck stretch, losing two close losses to North Andrew 5-2 and Maryville 4-2, but they snapped a two game losing streak with the win.

The two teams played to a 5-5 tie through five innings. In the sixth, Brylee Rush provided a spark for the Tigers when she singled to right with one out in the sixth. Lanie Cousatte battled back from a 1-2 count to walk, and then Aivry Griffin tripled to the left field corner to bring them both in. Hailey Adwell grounded out to bring home Griffin to make it 8-5.

But Stanberry battled right back as the heart of their order was coming up. Sadie Runde beat out an infield hit. Katelyn Stoll forced her at second, but then beat out a force at second as Lexi Craig reached safely. Amelia Wallace singled and went second on the throw home as Craig took third. Katlyn James flied out to Aivry Griffin in center, who fired home to try to retire Craig for the third out. But the ball got away, Craig and catcher Autumn Cousatte got tangled up at the plate, and Wallace scored as well to tie it at 8-8.

Kynah Steele was hit by a pitch to start the Tiger seventh. Brooklyn Richardson struck out, but Taylor Sanders hit a screamer so hard that the left fielder had no chance to get it, and it bounded all the way to the wall for a triple, since the softball fence was not up for that game. Steele flew around the bases for the winning run.

Hopkins Woman Injured in Wreck

A Hopkins woman was injured in a wreck near Pickering Sunday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Jacob Morgan (30) of Ravenwood was southbound on Katy Road north of 106th Street four miles north of Pickering when he failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the west side, back onto the roadway, and then back off the west side where it overturned. A passenger, Jaiden Hopkins (19) of Hopkins received moderate injuries and was taken to Mosaic in Maryville. Morgan was not injured.

Obituary -- Genny Jermain 1942-2021

Genevieve “Genny” Cecilia (Wilmes) Jermain, 79, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 3, 2021, at her home near Burlington Junction, MO.

Genevieve was born in Maryville, MO, on May 29, 1942.  Her parents were William Henry and Laura Louise (Thompson) Wilmes. 

She had lived in Maryville, then the Guilford and Conception areas, and moved to Burlington Junction in 1972.  She graduated from Maryville High School in 1960.

Genevieve worked as a receptionist at the old St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.  She had also worked at American Angus, the Cap Factory, and at Beverly Health Care, from 1995 to 2001.  She was a farm wife, and manual labor was her way of life and made her the most happy, even after her husband passed away in 1995. 

She married Vincent L. Jermain on April 20, 1963, at the old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Maryville.

Her parents preceded her in death, also her husband, and her siblings: Mary Ann in infancy, JoAnn Archer-Cordell, Mercedes Spire, Bill Wilmes, Jim Wilmes, and Mary Luke.

She was a member and attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Burlington Junction, MO, and the Altar Society of the church.  She also enjoyed her Thursday coffee group at Hy-Vee.

Her survivors include her children: Sheila (Jim) Calfee, Elmo, MO, Kenny Jermain, Burlington Junction, MO, and Julie (Shane) Moore, Burlington Junction, MO; her siblings: Fred (Darla) Wilmes, Platte City, MO, Laura Luke, Maryville, MO, Dorothy “Dot” Schmitz, Parnell, MO, and Pat (John) Schieber, Maryville, MO; 4 grandchildren: Kendall Calfee, Alan (Jessica) Calfee, Kristina Calfee, and Lexi Moore; 3 great grandchildren: Payden, Jaylon, and Kaylynn Calfee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Burlington Junction, MO.  The burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

The family will receive friends at the church from 9-10:00 AM, Wednesday, just prior to the service.

Services are under the direction of the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Obituary -- Leanna McClain 1946-2021

Leanna McClain, age 74, formerly of Grant City, Missouri died September 1, 2021, at the St. Joseph Chateau, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Leanna was born November 10, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Earl (Bud) and Mildred Maxine (King) Dickey.  

Leanna grew up on the family farm, where she loved helping her “Daddy” and mom with all the chores and activities.  Her favorite thing to do was baling hay and taking care of all the farm animals.  She also liked driving her 1957 Chevy really fast.

Leanna was a graduate of Grant City High School, class of 1964.

She was a member of the Grant City Christian Church and had been a member of Rainbow Girls.

Leanna will be remembered for some of the family stories she told and sayings that she often said.  Such as, “I’ll be okay” and “I do not know”. 

She was united in marriage to Lieutenant Colonel Claude McClain, Sr.  He preceded her in death on September 19, 1990.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother Bruce Lester Dickey and a cousin Dean Rote.

Her survivors include sons, Buddy Lester (Carolyn) Hall, Grant City, Claude Clinton McClain, III, St. Joseph, granddaughter Brittany (Michael) McClain, Platte City, Missouri, grandson Shai Bozart, St. Joseph, a Cousin Phyllis Rote, Perry, Iowa, and special family friends, Don (Diane) Zollman and Kevin (Jeannie) Fletchall and many furry friends especially Rosco.   

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, where the family will receive friends 5-7 PM, Tuesday, September 7. Burial will be in the Honey Grove Cemetery, Grant City.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 AM, Tuesday morning.
