Pattonsburg was taking their lumps this year with a young squad, but a long season got even longer two weeks ago when Gage Iddings, who developed into a force on defense and was flying around and making nearly 20 tackles a game, went down (ACL). They rallied to beat Rich Hill 56-44, but then had to play Worth County this week.
The Tigers were able to hang a school record of 70 points in the first quarter, continued to put points on the board, and then ran out much of the second quarter before the game was mercifully called at halftime with the Tigers winning 92-6.
The scoring started just 13 seconds into the game when, after a failed onsides kick by Pattonsburg, Alex Rinehart took a quick pitch 37 yards to the house and caught the extra point pass to make it 8-0. The Tigers were bigger and quicker than Pattonsburg, and made a living in the backfield all night long, with the Panthers unable to get their passing game off the ground. They were forced to punt, and Rinehart took another quick pitch designed to go right. But he encountered a defender, cut back to the center, and then bounced to the left sideline and to the house 54 yards away with 11:07 left, and Dylan McIntyre caught the extra point pass to make it 16-0.
Kodie Meyer wreaked havoc in the backfield on the next series, Worth County forced a three and out, and got the ball on their own 16. Pattonsburg jumped offsides, but then made a rare highlight when they flushed Aydan Gladstone out and drove him out of bounds for a sack back to the 17. But that only made things more interesting as Levi Cassavaugh got blocks from Dylan Wilmes and Creed Wilcox and broke free for 35 yards to the Panther 28. On the next play, Alex Rinehart got blocks from Wilmes and Jackson Runde and weaved his way for 23 yards to the 5. On the next play, Sam Coin nearly picked off Gladstone in the end zone, but Dylan McIntyre somehow got it away from him and somehow stayed inbounds to score with 9:47 left. Levi Cassavaugh got blocks from Jackson Runde and Alex Rinehart and added the extra points to make it 24-0 with 9:47 left.
Pattonsburg tried to spring Brody Langfitt loose on a sweep, but Braxton Hightshoe had nice pursuit and Dawson Vore drove him out of bounds for a loss of seven to set up third and 16. Tanner Ridge flushed out Zane Reed and sacked him to force another punt. Alex Rinehart ran it back to the 38. Rinehart got blocks from Auston Pride and Jackson Runde and bounced outside for 17 yards to the 25. Levi Cassavaugh got a block from Alex Rinehart for nine to the 16. Then, nobody covered Dylan McIntyre, who caught a pass from Aydan Gladstone for a score with 7:56 left. Alex Rinehart got blocks from Auston Pride and Jackson Runde to add the extra points to make it 32-0.
The Panthers finally found daylight as Sam Coin caught a short pass for six to the 21, but then Langfitt was swarmed under by Tanner Ridge, Dylan McIntyre, and Braxton Hightshoe, and then Aydan Gladstone picked off a pass to give Worth County a short field at the Panther 38. They only needed one play to score, as Aydan Gladstone ran right through the Panther defense and to the house with 6:36 left in the first.
Reed continued to run for his life after Dawson Vore batted down a pass, and Jace Cousatte flushed him out on fourth down and drove him out of bounds at the Panther 23, giving Worth County a short field. They only needed one play, as Alex Rinehart got blocks from Creed Wilcox and Jackson Smith and weaved his way through traffic to score again with 5:36 left. Levi Cassavaugh got blocks from Dylan Wilmes and Jackson Smith and added the extra points with 5:36 left to make it 46-0.
The first quarter clock was taking an eternity to run down, and meanwhile, Worth County got another score. This time, Kodie Meyer got a sack and a strip that Dawson Vore pounced on at the Panther 14. Levi Cassavaugh got a block from Dylan Wilmes and bulldozed his way to the 4, and Aydan Gladstone scrambled into the end zone with 4:18 left. He also scrambled into the end zone for the extra points to make it 54-0.
A bad snap sailed into the end zone on the next Pattonsburg series and resulted in a safety to make it 56-0 with 3:36 left in the first. Pattonsburg tried a squib kick on the ensuing kickoff, but Braxton Hightshoe ran it back to the Panther 24. Alex Rinehart got blocks from Jackson Smith, Creed Wilcox, and Levi Cassavaugh for 17 yards to the seven, and Aydan Gladstone threw a strike to Jackson Smith, who beat double coverage for the score with 2:59 left. Alex Rinehart caught the extra point pass to make it 64-0. Rinehart finished the night with 6 carries for 171 yards and stayed in the mix for the most rushing yards in Missouri eight man football.
Another bad snap put Pattonsburg in another impossible hole, and Worth County took over on downs on the Panther 17. This time, Worth County put in their second string, but they still found daylight as Braxton Hightshoe got five to the 12 and then Levi Cassavaugh took it the rest of the way with 1:27 left in the first to make it 70-0.
Pattonsburg got its first first down on the next series as Zane Reed threw a strike to Kaden Locker for 17 yards to the 34. But a crackback block wiped out a nice catch, and Reed was flushed on fourth and long and fumbled it out of bounds to give the Tigers good field position at the Panther 17. Tyler New took over at quarterback and threw incomplete his first try, but then took a busted play eight yards to the nine. Landon Wilmes took it the rest of the way with 10:33 left in the half, and John Galanakis caught the extra point pass to make it 78-0.
Reed tried to scramble for a first down on fourth and two at the Panther 23, but a big hit by Jace Cousatte stopped him short at the 24, giving the Tigers another short field. They only needed one play to convert as Jace Cousatte got a block from Codie Meyer and took it down the right side to the house with 8:23 left. Landon Wilmes caught the extra point pass to make it 86-0.
Pattonsburg finally got a rare highlight as Brody Langfitt burst up the middle and took it 64 yards to the house on the next series with 8:04 left to make it 86-6. At that point, Worth County fed Landon Wilmes at will, and he took the Tigers from the 24 to the Panther 6 in six plays. At that point, Worth County started kneeling down, as there was still an eternity left in the half and gave the ball back to Pattonsburg. Pattonsburg went three and out, and Worth County got the ball back at the 30. They knelt down back to the 32, and then elected to run one more play. This time, Landon Wilmes took it to the house with 1:42 left to make it 92-6.
