Bluejay Softball Sets School Record for Wins with 16

Northeast Nodaway finally got a breather Thursday after three straight one run wins, two of which were walkoff wins in the bottom of the seventh. They got a 12-1 win over East Harrison. Previously, the Bobcats had been no-hit by North Harrison. After that game, they got red hot and proceeded to win six out of their next seven. But Lindsey Jackson pitched six solid innings, the defense was solid behind her except for one bad inning, and the team got hits up and down the lineup. Ruby Wilmes had a triple, and the Bluejays had 13 hits as a team in the win.

With the win, Northeast got a school record by getting their 16th win. The previous record for wins in a season for the Bluejays was 15 wins in 2006, when they were 15-5. They won conference in 1995, splitting with Jefferson. They had a banner year in 1990, winning conference, districts, and sectionals with a 9-3 record before falling to Putnam County, but seasons back in those days were much shorter. They also won districts in 1989.

The Bluejays have even gone to state before. In 1978, they went to state after a regular season in which they beat Jefferson 19-2 and Fillmore 35-0. They won one game in state before falling in the semifinals. In 1977, they also made it to semifinals. They won districts in 1976. But a check of the school yearbooks back to 1971 finds no teams that won more games than this year's squad.
