Brooklyn Richardson's home run and pitching sparked Worth County past Platte Valley for a 4-2 win Tuesday for the Tigers' first win against Jefferson in 15 years. The last win for the Tigers was in 2006, when Cassie Gilland pitched the Tigers to a 7-4 win in Jefferson. Like 2006, it was the Tigers' backup pitcher who did the trick; Gilland backed up Megan Walker, while Richardson backs up Ali Brown.
The Tigers got Aivry Griffin back for the game, and coach Tiffany Bliley put Brooklyn Richardson on the mound to face the dangerous Platte Valley bats. The game was scoreless through four, but Brooklyn Richardson, known more for her speed than her power, crushed one over the fence to spark the Tigers. They then strung together several hits in a row to plate four in the inning. Richardson had shown signs of life with her bat the night before in Ravenwood during the JV, crushing two extra base hits for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley had baserunners galore, but could never get the big hit that could break open the game. They had a triple in the first inning, only for Autumn Cousatte, whose pickoff move has been getting better during the year, to pick her off third. They loaded the bases in the third with one out as well as the sixth, but could not push a run across. Finally, they got two runs across in the seventh, only for Worth County, who had fielded lights out that night, to shut the door and get the third out.
