Dakota Dilley Has Big Night Defensively; Special Teams Score Twice in Platte Valley Win

Dakota Dilley had a big night defensively for Platte Valley, and the special teams scored twice as Platte Valley beat DeKalb 66-18 to raise their record to 5-2 for this year. Their magic number for a winning season is now one. They have games remaining against Stewartsville/Osborn, East Atchison, and then a district game. With the win, Platte Valley matched its highest win total since 2013, which was their last winning season.

Dilley led the tackle charts Friday with 10 tackles. He had 7 solo, 3 assisted for a total of 10, and three tackles for loss.

The special teams also came up big. Wyatt Tobin ran back a punt for a touchdown, and Tyler Vongkhamchanh ran back a 50 yard kickoff for a touchdown.

Platte Valley put the game away in the first quarter, scoring 30 points and taking a 30-6 lead after one quarter. They extended their lead to 52-12 before outscoring DeKalb 14-6 in the third.

Platte Valley bent, but didn’t break on defense as DeKalb ran 56 plays to 23 for Platte Valley, but with only 18 points to show for it.

Platte Valley only needed one passing play and 19 running plays to net 265 yards, or over 13 yards per play. Aydan Blackford completed a touchdown pass to Tyler Vongkhamchanh for 10 yards and a score.

Carter Luke led Platte Valley with 7 carries for 115 yards. Leland Otto had 5 carries for 53 yards, Hayden Ferry 1 carry for 36 yards, Mason Richardson 1 carry for 23 yards, Jaxon McCrary 2 carries for 19 yards, Aydan Blackford 1 carry for 5 yards, and Keagan Etter 2 carries for 4 yards.

Defensively, Dakota Dilley had 10 tackles and three tackles for loss, including one sack. Lewis Giffin had 8, Hayden Ferry 6 tackles, Keagan Etter 6 tackles and one for loss, Tyler Vongkhamchanh, Leland Otto, and Jaxon McCrary 5 each, Trevor Weir 4 tackles and one sack, Brandon McQueen 4 tackles and one for loss, Wyatt Tobin 4 tackles, Carter Luke and Mason Richardson 2 each, and Tucker Klamm, Landon Wiederholt, Tate Billings, and Ryan Allen 1 tackle each.

Lewis Giffin had one fumble recovery for Platte Valley.
