The first of what will hopefully be many new banners came for the girls Tuesday as they took on the bigger schools in the GRC East and won. It was their second straight meet victory after having come in second most of the time this year. The boys were the top team among the smaller schools and finished tied for third.
On the girls side, Worth County had 120 points, followed by Trenton with 110 and Putnam County with 105. Stanberry had 88, King City 63, Braymer 56.5, St. Joseph Christian 48, South Harrison 42, Polo 31, Maysville 29, Princeton 23, Albany 12, Milan 7, Gallatin 4, and Pattonsburg .5.
For the boys, Trenton ran away with the title with 145 points. Milan had just as little competition for second and got 92. Princeton and Worth County had 54, Putnam County 53.5, South Harrison 49.5, King City 44, Braymer 39, St. Joseph Christian 38, North Andrew 31, Gallatin 30, Pattonsburg 28, Maysville 27, Stanberry 26, Polo 24, and Albany 6.
For the girls, Payton Adwell came close to a personal best in the prelims and got fourth with a time of 13.69. One of Putnam County’s runners false started in the finals, which cost them some key points.
Adwell was seventh in the 200 with a time of 28.48.
Kristin New was seventh in the 1600 with a time of 6:33.98. She was third in the 3200 with a time of 14:14.67.
Anna Gladstone had lights-out performances in the two hurdle events. She knocked 1.3 seconds off her time in the 100 Hurdles, 1.68 seconds off her prelim time, and won handily with a time of 15.32. She then knocked 1.36 of a second off her time in the 300 Hurdles and won with a time of 49.38.
The 4x100 team posted a personal best, knocking .26 of a second off their time and placing fourth with a time of 55.58. The 4x400 was sixth as the team of Jessi Badell, Abbi Caddenhead, Nevada Hoff, and Kaylee McElvain took 10 seconds off their time and finished with a time of 4:55.12. The 4x800 team of Jessi Badell, Abbi Caddenhead, Kaylee McElvain, and Sophia Obermuller was seventh with a time of 12:47.83.
Anna Gladstone got her third victory in the High Jump, getting a height of 5 feet and winning on tiebreaks. Liz Lyle was fifth with a height of 4’10”, matching a season best.
Jessi Badell tied for fourth in the Pole Vault with a height of 7’6”.
Anna Gladstone didn’t quite get the hat trick, but she finished second in the Long Jump with a leap of 15’2½”. Liz Lyle was fifth with a jump of 14’7¾”.
Liz Lyle was second in the Triple Jump with a jump of 31’5½”.
Merrideth Spiers set another personal best in the Shot Put, winning with a throw of 35’8½”. Two Tigers placed in the Discus as Spiers won with a throw of 112’9”. Kennedy Galanakis was third with a throw of 91’1”.
The Tigers placed two in the Javelin and got a surprise victory from Payton Adwell. She beat her personal best by over 15 feet, winning with a throw of 108’7”. Kaylee McElvain was eighth with a throw of 86’6”, also a personal best.
For the boys, Bryant McCord was sixth in the 200 with a time of 24.21.
Bryant McCord set a personal best and won the 110 Hurdles with a time of 17.05. Jaxon Anderson was fifth with a time of 19.27, also a personal best.
The 4x100 team of Tevin Cameron, Jaxon Anderson, Caleb Parman, and Bryant McCord was fifth with a time of 47.22, a personal best. The 4x200 team of Tevin Cameron, Jaxon Anderson, Caleb Parman, and Bryant McCord was eighth with a time of 1:45.10.
Daniel Craven matched a personal best and finished fifth in the Pole Vault with a height of 9 feet. Will Engel was eighth with a height of 8 feet.
The Tigers placed two in the Long Jump. Tevin Cameron was third with a jump of 19’1”. Caleb Parman was seventh with a jump of 18’9¼”.
The Tigers placed two in the Triple Jump. Caleb Parman was fourth with a jump of 38’9¼”. Jaxon Anderson was fifth with a jump of 37’3¾”, a personal best.
The Tigers placed two in a loaded Shot Put field. Drake Kinsella was sixth with a throw of 41’5½”.
Mason Hawk was eighth with a throw of 39’5”. Drake Kinsella was seventh in the Discus with a throw of 115 feet. Jacob New was fifth in the Javelin with a throw of 123’6”.
