Obituary -- Donna Robertson 1922-2016

Donna Robertson, 93, Grant City, Missouri passed away peacefully April 7, 2016 at Warrensburg Manor Care Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was born July 29, 1922 to Irvie and Audrey (Morin) Meek in rural Worth County.

Donna was married to Truman Robertson in July 1941 and spent 22 years in the Air Force. In early years of their marriage she worked as a civilian secretary at Air Force Bases in Texas and Montana. She came home to live with her mom and dad in 1944 while Truman was sent to North Africa in the war and gave birth to Gary in 1945. In the early 50’s while living in Indiana she went to auctions and began an extensive collection of antiques by refurbishing and reselling them.

They moved to Warrensburg, Missouri in 1962 with sons Gary and Stephen. There she cooked in one of the dormitories at the college and later worked for an auctioneer as a clerk. She enjoyed being a clerk as it gave her the chance to work with numbers and seeing things sell, both of which she loved. She used the money she made from her hard work to pay for Gary’s college education and later her grandson Douglas’s education.

She lost Truman in 1985. In the fall of 1992 she moved to Grant City to be close to her brother Robert and two aunts, Inez Ducker and Lillian Webb. They enjoyed spending time together and making shopping trips to Maryville and St. Joseph.

She was an extremely hard worker her entire life. She enjoyed working. Donna was 70 years old when she moved to Grant City and the first year here she established grass in her yard, planted over 150 trees and shrubs and organized her new home (which she designed), making curtains and decorating the house. She had a part time job for 20 years in the extension office at the courthouse. In January 1999 she was awarded the Northwest Missouri Worker of the year title. In her job at the extension office she was graduated to computers after starting her working career as an expert in shorthand and typing.

She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and friend. She loved reading, gardening, canning tomatoes and cooking for her family. She will be greatly missed.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Truman, son Gary and brother Edward.

    

She is survived by son Stephen Robertson and wife Candace of Warrensburg; grandchildren Douglas Robertson and wife Sasha of Olathe, Kansas, Catherine Robertson and great-grandchildren Hayle and Jarrod Winfrey of Gravois Mills, and brother Robert Meek of Grant City.

   

Funeral Services were 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Pastor Len Green officiated. Interment was in the Grant City Cemetery.
