Worth County Superintendent's Column

Summer is definitely upon us now!  I would like to thank all of you for allowing my first year as the Worth County R-III School District Superintendent to be a successful one.  Being new to a school district can be difficult for an adult, but especially trying for young people.  However, my family and I are so happy to be in a place that welcomed us right in with open arms.   There has been and will continue to be change that can cause anxiety, however, this process is much easier when our school-community all have the same goal.  That goal is to ensure Worth County R-III is the best school district in Northwest Missouri.   Like in the business world, school districts must be constantly looking at data to show and guide us to this goal.  Our teachers are working hard to continue to look for ways to measure student academic achievement so that we know that we are headed in the right direction.    With that being said both the teachers and students have earned their summer vacation!

This year, like most, our maintenance and custodial staff will be working extremely hard to accomplish all of the goals we have set.  There are walls to be put up, walls to be taken down, and everything in between.    Because of the transition to go to one K-12 principal, we have to move many offices/rooms around to be more efficient and ensure our school is designed to maximize student achievement.    Kandi and I are no different.  In fact, our own offices will be moved to a new location in the building.  This will allow the building level administration to better utilize the space that we currently have.   We are very fortunate to have a maintenance and custodian staff that will be able to do most of the work themselves, which will continue to allow us to be fiscally responsible.

Speaking of transition, I would once again, like to point out how lucky the Worth County R-III School has been.  We have been able to have two outstanding principals within the district for twenty plus years.   Replacing Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Healy would be difficult no matter what.  To better utilize the financial resources we have, the board of education decided to combine these positions.   However, despite the challenges ahead of us, I know Mr. Adwell is looking forward to coming back home and continue the strong Tiger tradition.  Not only are Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Healy retiring, but we also have other staff members that are leaving us as well.  In fact, if you combine all of the years of service to the Worth County R-III School District that these individuals have contributed, it would be over one hundred years of service!

Finally, in an attempt to better communicate with the community, we have added a new feature to our school’s website.  If you go to wc.k12.mo.us, you will notice on the left side of the page a new link titled “Ask the Superintendent.”   This was added to the website so that you have the opportunity to send any questions or concerns directly to me.  Obviously, this should not prevent anyone from being able to come and speak to me directly or call.  However, I would like to be as transparent as possible as your superintendent.  This is just simply another way we can accomplish this goal.

I do hope that all of you have a great summer!  Again, speaking for myself and my family, I would like to thank you for your support throughout the year.  If you would have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
