Claire Andrews repeated as Pole Vault champion and the Worth County boys finished 6th in the State Track Meet last weekend.
Katie Mullock finished 8th in the Long Jump. She finished with a jump of 15’9”. The field was crowded with the top 8 finishers finishing within 10 inches of each other. She will be a favorite to contend for the title next year as three of the competitors ahead of her graduate.
Sydney Thummel finished with a time of 19.06 in the 100 Hurdles. That was 1.74 of a second off the time needed to qualify for the final round.
The 4x200 team of Claire Andrews, Sydney Thummel, Ally Buffington, and Katie Mullock missed out on qualifying into the final round by nine hundredths of a second. They got a personal best time of 1:52.43 in the preliminaries.
The 4x100 team of Claire Andrews, Jessica Garrett, Sydney Thummel, and Katie Mullock had one of their better times of the year with a time of 54.79. That was 1.63 seconds off of the qualifying time for the finals.
Sydney Thummel did not qualify in the 300 Hurdles. She got a time of 53.33. That was 3.53 seconds off the qualifying time of the event.
Claire Andrews set a personal best in defending her title. She got a vault of 10 feet to beat out a tough field, which included seven people who vaulted 9 feet or more.
The 4x400 team of Kristen Andrews, Claire Andrews, Malori Moellenberndt, and Haven Schottel finished with a time of 4:33.27. That was 16 seconds off the time needed to qualify to the finals.
On the boys side, the 4x800 team of Bryson Scott, Jordan Harding, Dakota Owsley, and Ryan Smith shaved 21 seconds off their sectional time and finished 5th with a time of 8:36.71. That was 13 seconds off the time of Valle Catholic and was Worth County’s best time of the year.
The boys placed two in the discus. Dallas Greenland was second with a throw of 136’5”. That was 9 feet off the throw of Ryan Hermann of Valle Catholic. Hermann will graduate, so Greenland will be one of the favorites in that event. Josh Warner was 7th with a throw of 131’2”.
Wyatt Rush did not qualify in the hurdles, but he got one of his better vaults of the year as he got a height of 10 feet.
Jordan Harding got a time of 2:13.26 in the 800. That was 9 seconds off the time needed to qualify to the finals.
Bryson Scott was 13th in the 3200 with a time of 11:21.29. That was 52 seconds off the time needed to place in the event.
On the second day of competition, Eli Mullock was second in the 100 with a time of 11.21. That was .1 of a second behind the time of Kylynn Sisk of South Holt. Eli beat out Eric Duncan of Rock Port by four hundredths of a second as Duncan had a time of 11.25.
Eli Mullock was also second in the 200 to Sisk. Eli finished with a time of 22.71 while Sisk won with a time of 22.47. Eli was .56 of a second ahead of the third place finisher.
Lane Craven did not place in the Shot Put, but had one of his best throws of the year with a throw of 42’9. That was 2 feet off the time needed to place in the event.
Grant Parman got a jump of 18’3” in the Long Jump. That was 1 foot off the distance needed to place in the event.
Worth County’s boys finished the state meet with a total of 30 points. Valle Catholic ran away with the meet with 81 points, followed by Concordia with 55. Wheaton was third with 46, Wellington-Napoleon had 36, and Princeton had 35.
