Sheridan Old Defiance Days to Open Sesquicentennial

The Sheridan Old Defiance Days Celebration will kick off a week’s worth of celebrations marking the Worth County Sesquicentennial cumulating in celebrations in Grant City next weekend and in Allendale on the 4th of July.
At Friday, June 24th at 5:30, the Little Mr. & Miss Defiance contest will kick off the celebrations, followed by the Citizen of the Year Presentation at 5:45 followed by the Kiddie Parade at 6. Following the parade, the Sheridan CBC will sponsor a supper at the schoolhouse, followed by the Horseback Poker Run at 7 and a dance at Snakebite at 9.
The main celebration will start on Saturday the 25th starting with a breakfast by the Sheridan Shamrocks 4-H at Sheridan Grocery. The flag raising and parade will start at 10:30, followed by the Mic-O-Say dancers at 11:30. A volleyball tournament and a performance by the Shimmy & Shake Dance Studio will be at 12.
The afternoon events will kick off at 1 with the Pockets Full of Fun Puppet & Ventriloquism Show followed by Pockets Full of Fun Crafts at 2 along with an ice cream social. From 1-3, there will be a car and motorcycle show. At 1:30, there will be a Texas Hold’em tournament. From 2-5, Ed Jacobs and Climax will perform in the park. At 3 will be kids games including a pedal pull sponsored by the Worth County FFA. At 4:30 will be a scavenger hunt, followed by a kids pet show at 5:30, a baby show at 6, and a free throw contest at 6:30.
The main evening event on Saturday will be the Simple Grace concert at the stage, sponsored by Sheridan Christian Church, starting at 7. At 9, there will be a Karaoke at Snakebite put on by the Fletcher family.
There will be events throughout the day including cupcake walks, Bingo, and a box auction following the baby show. The Life Net helicopter will be landing in Sheridan during the afternoon. There will be concessions, games, a water slide, and a flea market.
On Sunday, events will kick off with Church in the Park. At 11 will be the mud run at the schoolhouse.
