The St. Joseph News-Press reports former Worth County Sheriff Neil "Bear" Groom is facing eight federal charges relating to allegations that he deprived women of their rights by forcing them to expose themselves while in office. The incidents allegedly occurred between May 2006 and December 2007. The allegations state that he talked women into exposing various body parts during searches. Each charge carries a maximum one year prison sentence and a $100,000 fine. None of the women involved are named in the federal documents outside of their initials.
The charges described are merely allegations. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
