Helen Maxine Burton was born December 17, 1936 to Ellen and James Thurman in the Allendale Nation. She was the youngest of 9 children; the family later moved to and settled in the Hatfield area. At an early age, Helen became a Christian, accepting the Lord as her personal savior. At the age of 21, she married Lloyd Burton, then of St. Joseph; the couplr moved around a bit before settling to raise their family in Gentry.
Through their marriage of 34 years, they raised three sons, John Leander, Rodney James, Monte Dale, 10 grandchildren, and to date 15 great-grandchildren whom she loved greatly.
For the last 14 years, she shared her home, her family, her love, and her life with Charles Pritchett. Helen was a faithful member of the Gentry Christian Church for many years; she is preceded in death by her parents Ellen and James Thurman, sisters Pearl Morris and Viola Knight, brothers Paul, Marion, David, John, and Archey, and her husband Lloyd. She is survived by sister Dorothy Fountain of Martinsville, children John Rodney, and Monty, her companion Charles Pritchett, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Andrews Funeral Home in Grant City on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Minister Lewis Marshall officiated. Interment was in the Kirk Cemetery in Allendale.
