Sheridan still looking to fill City Council position

The City of Sheridan is still in the process of seeking to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Chuck Zook. Prospective candidates must live in the east side of town and must have resided in Sheridan for at least one year. Candidates would be appointed to serve until the term expires after the Municipal Elections this April. People who are interested should contact Mayor Leland Wake at (660) 799-2226.

There was a water leak at Chuck Zook's which cost the city 27,000 gallons of water, which came out to a bill of $93.40 for the Zooks. City policy is to split the cost of the bill with the customer in the event of a leak.

Mayor Leland Wake said that he had gotten offers for some of the old meters that the city does not use anymore. He said that he wanted to wait for Spring to see if he could find something better.

The council voted to accept an offer from a buyer to purchase the diesel and gas barrels at the old MODOT building for $750. The diesel tank held 2500 gallons while the gas tank held 1000 barrels. Both were 25 years old.

The council also voted to let Wake Trucking rent the DOT building for storage for $200 per month. Leland Wake said that he planned to get electricity to the place and bring three trucks up to charge for another $60 per month. He said that he would buy propane out of his own pocket for the building as well. The city is still soliciting ideas for the building and Wake said that the goal was to make the building more presentable for prospective tenants and fetch a rent of around $400 per month. He said that the city didn't want to rent it to just anyone.

The Sheridan city caucuses will be held January 11th at 7:00 p.m. to nominate positions for the City Council. Dave Thomas' position is up for election on the west side of town.
