School Board Election -- Karen Fletchall Looks to Plan Ahead

Incumbent Worth County school board member Karen Fletchall said that finances would be a challenge for the school and that it was important to for the school to proceed carefully and to plan ahead so that they would meet those challenges. She is running for reelection this year. "I've been on the board for 9 years and we've always tried to plan ahead so that we would not be forced to make drastic changes," she said.

Fletchall said that the goal was to provide a quality education for students and to give the students everything they would need in order to be successful. Among goals currently in place are providing a quality education, utilizing existing resources effectively, meeting the school's physical building needs, and retaining and attracting staff. "We're fortunate to have teachers and staff who care about students as individuals," she said.

Fletchall said that the biggest accomplishment of the school since she was elected was putting in walls in the elementary. The other great accomplishment was seeing students excel in both academics and athletics, including going to Carnegie Hall. She said that another positive was the high degree of student involvement. She said that if reelected, she would pay attention to test scores as well as continuing to encourage learning collaboratives.

Karen Fletchall is married to David Fletchall. They have three children, Anthony, Sheena, and Brianna. Anthony and Sheena have graduated while Brianna is a junior in high school. She said that her favorite teachers in school were business teacher Carolyn Jones, 4th grade teacher Neva Waldeier, and 2nd grade teacher Vanda Terry. "They had expectations and maybe at the time we didn't appreciate it, but they all saw our potential," said Fletchall. "I had good teachers throughout my time at Worth County, but those three stood out for me."
