Worth County broke out of a two game slump with a wild 16-11 win over Stanberry last Tuesday. Frequently, it takes an ugly win to break out of a slump. Worth County had struggled the week before with a 13-4 loss to North Andrew and a 4-3 heartbreaker against Maryville.
It looked like more of the same when Stanberry used a double by Katlyn James and multiple Tiger errors to jump out to a 4-1 lead after one. That lead stood up until the third, when singles by Autumn Cousatte, Kynah Steele, Ali Brown, and ZeeAnna Gladstone fueled a Tiger rally that put them up 6-4. They added to their lead in the fourth behind singles from Cousatte and Hailey Adwell. James, who had a hot bat for Stanberry, tripled and Katie Angle singled to cut it to 8-5. But Worth County got four more hits in the fifth to seemingly break it open, when Brylee Rush, Brooklyn Richardson, and Kynah Steele singled and Ali Brown doubled to make it 12-5.
But all hell threatened to break loose in the Stanberry sixth, when the bottom of their order suddenly came alive. They teed off on Worth County pitching, the heart of their order came around, and Amelia Wallace capped it off to hit a grand slam to cut it to 12-11. But Worth County struck out the next three batters and settled down, getting some insurance runs in the seventh. Brooklyn Richarson and Brylee Rush had doubles, while Autumn Cousatte and Hailey Adwell both singled. Worth County set down Stanberry in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
