Ronald Lynn Wyllie, 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 26, 2022. Ron was born on March 23, 1950 in Bridgewater, Iowa. He was a loving son to Kermit and Lois Patten, and brother to Roleene Roberts, Pamela Ridner, Clarita Nelson, Patrick Patten, Therese Christensen and Mark Patten. In 1960, Ron moved with his family to Orient, Iowa where he stayed the remainder of his juvenile years.
In December 1969 Ron enlisted in the United States Army. Ron was an Infantryman and served with the 1st Calvary Division as long-range reconnaissance patrol in Vietnam from May 1970 to November 1971. Ron made it to the rank of Sergeant and received the Combat Infantryman Badge, two Bronze Stars, with Valor, a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts for his heroic actions during the Vietnam War. Ron was proud of his service to his country.
On December 20, 1978, Ron married Sandra Johnson of Creston, Iowa in Maryville, Missouri. Together, they had two children, Ryan and Cassie. As a family, they lived together in several states (Minnesota, Wyoming and Nevada) before returning back to Iowa after their divorce. Despite their divorce, Ron often regarded Sandra as the love of his life and the two developed and maintained a friendship in their later years.
Ron lived a full life and a life of service; he worked as a police officer and EMT before eventually settling on a career in nursing. Ron was an outdoor enthusiast, avid hunter and 2nd Amendment supporter. He was often known for his goofy antics or off the wall comments to garner a laugh. Ron was charismatic and brave but above all, he was unapologetically himself, always.
Ron leaves behind his son, Ryan Wyllie and wife Quatina (QT) of Pickering, Missouri and his daughter, Cassie Wyllie of Spring Creek, Nevada. In addition to his children, he leaves behind his five grand children: Felicia Wyllie, Trevin Wyllie, Chandra Wyllie, Wyatt Wyllie and Weston Wyllie.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Lois Patten.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held October 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Orient Lake. A private family burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery N.E. of Williamson.
