Jean Cottrell, age 90, Grant City, Missouri, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City.
Eva Jean Cottrell was born December 8, 1931, near Parnell, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Guy Roy and Marzella Dessolee (Mercer) Auten.
Jean was a graduate of Sheridan High School, Sheridan, Missouri.
On January 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Cottrell in Albany, Missouri. To this union five children were born Johnna, Steve, Randy, Lori and David.
Jean was always at home on the farm where she loved gardening and canning the many vegetables that she grew. She had also worked at the Wool Shop manufacturing company in Grant City.
Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries all of Grant City. In days past she enjoyed attending club and the time she spent with her friends at the former Uneeda Club of Worth.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Johnna Dianne Cottrell, son Randy Cottrell (October 6, 2018) and a brother Charles Auten.
Her survivors include husband John “Jack” Cottrell of the home, daughter Lori (Rex) Groom, Leawood, Kansas, sons Steve (Kathleen) Cottrell, DesPeres, Missouri and David (Cathy) Cottrell, Fort Madison, Iowa, grandchildren Kristi Yackly, Kari Cottrell, Hannah and Heath Groom, John and Nathan Cottrell, and Kris Swanson, great grandchildren Melody Frederick, Caleb and Nicholas Yackley, Jackson and Emery Groom, and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Chapel, Grant City. Family visitation will be 4-6 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Grant City Cemetery. Reverend Jeff Jaekley will be officiating.
