Memorial Services for Dan Smith, 62, were held April 29, 2022 at 2 PM at Cummings Family Funeral Home. Inurnment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Iowa. Memorials may be directed towards the family to be established.
Danny James Smith was born to Lloyd and Helen Smith of Blockton, IA on May 3, 1959. Dan was born in the Mt. Ayr hospital and was greeted home by his 3 sisters Patsy, Vickie, and Melody. Dan went to Blockton for grade school and then to Bedford for his high school years. Dan went into the navy and was later discharged when it was found that he had sustained injuries to knee caps from a pole vault accident in high school track. Dan then worked bridge construction for awhile when he met his first wife Brenda Ray. They married in 1984 and together they had two girls Danielle and Ashleah.
Dan then went to the road as a truck driver and spent 34 yrs and had over 4 million miles under his belt. Dan later met his wife Amy and they were married Feb. 20, 2014. Dan's health forced him to retire from trucking and he spent his last years in Lenox with his wife Amy and dog Skipper until the Lord called him home on April 25, 2022.
Dan is proceeded in death by his parents Lloyd and Helen Smith, and a grandson Kyler Heatherington. Dan leaves behind his wife Amy Smith of Lenox,Ia, his daughters Danielle (Kyle) Heatherington of (Winterset, Ia) and Ashleah Hudek (Jami Stoulil) of (Manson, Ia), sister Melody Running of (South Dakota) , 2 nieces LeAnna Haidsiak(Ames,Ia), Alana (Arch) Archer of (Des Moines,Ia) and Chris(Alyson) Haidsiak of ( Madrid,Ia), 8 grandchildren Kaden, Adelynn, Kash, Miles, Kolt, Maddox, and Maverick, 4 step children, 10 step grandchildren, and sisters, Vickie and Patsy both of Arizona.
When Dan wasn’t on the road he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the Vikings play football. He enjoyed sitting with friends and family and telling stories of the good old days in Blockton…. and you had better be prepared to sit awhile for those. Dan was also proud of his garden, he grew some of the biggest tomatoes in town and had some of the best peppers. He also loved to take nature walks at the lake with his dog when his health still allowed.
