Shirley Winemiller was named the Sheridan Alumni Association President at the annual reunion Sunday.
The organization had $2,108 in the bank when all income and expenses were calculated according to Treasurer Janet Gladstone.
The association received letters and donations from Franklin and Debra Dowis, Mary Piveral, and Elenora French.
Members who passed included Mary Caldwell, Jack Hawk, Sherry Churchill Dowis, Roland “Jiggs” Farrell, Connie Wonderly, Norman Runyan, Bill Scott, Judy Fletchall, Gary James, Vern Randle, Jim Keever, and Judy Fletchall. Ms. Gladstone reported that the list was the longest since she had been there.
Outgoing President Mike Scott announced he was stepping down. Laverne Walker wanted to keep the same officers as last time, but Mr. Scott said that he was stepping down for good this time. He said he was talked into doing it the last time, but that it wasn’t going to happen again.
“I enjoyed serving, but it’s been 50 years now since the school closed and just four or five attended who were from the 1970’s,” Mr. Scott said. “I don’t want to see this die, but I won’t be the President.”
Shirley Winemiller agreed to do it if nobody else wanted it, and the association named her as President. Steve Proctor will continue as Vice-President. Janet Gladstone will continue as Secretary/Treasurer.
There is currently $35,000 left for the Sheridan CBC to pay for the building. If interested in donating to the project, contact any Sheridan CBC member.
LaRue Burns said she wanted the mural from the former bank building, which was painted by the late Clive Rickabaugh, preserved and moved to the community building.
The banner from the curtain from the Sheridan High School stage was gone and the class pictured had been taken down and moved to the west tables. The Alumni Association requested that the pictures be put back up where they were.
