Gilbert Joseph “Joe” Hodge, 81, of Bedford, Iowa passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Village Care Center in Maryville, Missouri.
Joe was born on October 16, 1944, in De Soto, Missouri to Joseph Sydney Hodge and Helen Margurette Wideman Hodge Davison. Joe’s father passed away when he was three years old. Following his father’s death, Helen, married Harlan Davison. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1962.
Joe married Lois Eileen Garrard on May, 30 1964, in Sheridan, Missouri. Joe and Lois had three children, Michael, Timothy and Deann. He was preceded by his parents and step-father; two brothers, Richard Davison and Ken Davison; and his sons, Michael and Timothy. Joe was a life-long farmer and seed corn dealer for several years. He was president of the Hopkins Community Club for many years and was very active in community events. He enjoyed traveling, chasing storms, eating a good meal and was likely to talk your ear off with a story or two. Joe also liked to cook and was known for a pretty tasty pot of chili. It was important to him to bring people together for family and community
gatherings.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Deann Hensley; five grandchildren, Felicia (Chuck) Appel; Kahner Hodge, Taelor Hodge, Erin Hensley, and Ella Hensley; six greatgrandchildren, Zander Haley, Remington Appel, Elliana Appel, Kenny Davies, Josie Davies and Gavin Hull; siblings, Jack (Phillis) Davison, Sharon (S.W) Swink, Sue Dallas, Larry (Pam) Davison, Karl (B.J.) Hodge, and Terry (Marsha) Davison.
Joe’s family will receive family and friends to celebrate his life at the Hopkins Community Center on Saturday, June 6, from 1 pm to 4 pm. Memorials can be directed to the family to help with final expenses.
