Donald E. Null went to be with the Lord Jesus on May 13, 2026 at 3:09 PM. He was born Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941 near Braymer, Missouri. His parents were Glenn M. Null and Mary Jean Hill Null. Donald was oldest of four children, all boys, in the family – Gary, Roger and Rick. Donald married neighbor girl and the love of his life Lois Wiedmier on August 9, 1959. To this union were born three children; R. Theran (Cindy) Null, Phillip (Debbie) Null and Traci (Kyle) Bjork.
He was
raised on a dairy and hog farm in the Braymer community and graduated from the
Braymer C-4 School System in 1959. He
was very active in the FFA and received the State Farmer Degree in 1958 and the
State Dairy Farmer Award in 1959. He was
proud of being elected to the FFA Degree of Honorary Chapter Farmer by three
chapters – Versailles, Unionville and Grant City. He and his brothers showed Jersey dairy
cattle and Landrace hogs at community and state fairs throughout his years in
high school.
Donald
attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and graduated with a BS in
Agriculture Education in 1962. He taught
Vocational Agriculture in Lamoni, Iowa and Versailles, Missouri from 1962
-1967. Donald began work for the
University of Missouri Extension System in 1967 as an Agricultural Agent and
retired in 2002 as a Regional Agronomy Specialist. He received his MS degree from MU in
1977. Donald and his wife Lois began
raising feeder pigs in 1969 on a rented place east of Grant City, Missouri. In 1972 they purchased the Lester Lutes Farm
south of Allendale, Missouri. They
raised their family on that farm, along with corn, soybeans and hogs.
During
Donald’s career with the University of Missouri Extension he won many awards
and was recognized by his peers as an outstanding professional. He worked with community leaders to establish
the Northwest Missouri Soil Fertility Improvement Assn. He considered his major
career achievement as helping to establish the Hundley-Whaley Research Center
at Albany, Missouri. During his years of
guiding the work at the Center, he conducted many corn and soybean weed control
experiments and reported on that work at the North Central Weed Science Society
annual meeting. Up to one thousand
people from the region attended the field day held each year at the Center
during his tenure.
Donald and
Lois loved to travel but above all they enjoyed spending time with family. He considered it a blessing to be able to
help care for great grandsons Jace, Ian and Declan Mullock for a time as they
were growing up. Donald liked gardening
and wood working and he would spend hours in the shop creating furniture for
member of his family.
Donald was
a member of the Grant City Community Church which he served as Treasurer,
Trustee, Lay Leader and Annual Conference Delegate over the years. He was a member of Farm Bureau and served on
the Worth County Farm Bureau board for several years. He was a past member of the Missouri
Association of County Agricultural Agents, member and president of the Missouri
County Agents Association, member of the American Society of Agronomy, the
American Weed Science Society and the North Central Weed Science Society.
He is
survived by his wife Lois, his children R. Theran (Cindy) Null, Phillip
(Debbie) Null, Traci (Kyle) Bjork. Grandchildren Ashley (Michael) Mullock,
Travis (McKenzie) Null, Lauren (Mitch) Andrews, Lindsey and Emma Bjork,
Alexandria (Aaron) Moutray, T.J. (Julie) McManus, Megan (Bobby) Combs; great
grandchildren Lathum Combs, Jace, Ian and Declan Mullock, Graham and Hadley
Null, Theodore, Willow and Everett Andrews and James Aaron, Ellie and Toren
Gilmore, and Thomas McManus, brothers Gary (Janet) Null, Roger (Beverly) Null,
and Rick (Joyce) Null.
The family
will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Grant City
Community Church, Grant City, Missouri. Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the First Baptist
Church Braymer, Braymer, Missouri.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer.
