Jensen Davis carried the Shamrocks on his shoulders with 24 points as North Harrison recovered from a two point loss to Albany the night before and put away Gilman City 39-16 Tuesday, November 14th. The Shamrocks ran the table at Mercer and won the tournament, but a two point loss to Albany that was tough to swallow forced them back to the drawing board. They went back to what they knew best, swarming and pressing with Gage Fortner pressing the inbounder for the blue shirts.
But given that the two schools play football together and
that the kids all know each other, Gilman City put up a fight, getting their
hands in the passing lanes and forcing a ton of Shamrock turnovers off passes
that normally go through. Mason Preston, brother of Pattonsburg football standout
Landon Preston, got better and better at bringing the ball up the floor against
pressure, and Camden Henry showed some promise as well.
The Shamrocks started off fast as Jensen Davis scored off a
Ryker Fortner steal. Ryker led the team in steals for the night at eight. Mason
Preston’s free throw made it 2-1, but then Gage Fortner got a steal, Jensen
Davis missed, but Ryker put it back. Ryker scored off a steal and then Jensen
Davis scored off a Dalton Guy steal to make it 8-1.
But then Mason Preston threw a wrench into the Shamrocks’
plans when he got a steal and threw up a three pointer that went in to make it
8-4. After that, North Harrison still had control of the game, chipping away
throughout to pull away, but it was not as easy as some of their wins. Davis
slashed to the rim to score and later hit a free throw to make it 11-4 after
one.
Jensen Davis continued to carry the Shamrocks in the second,
scoring from inside. Ryker Fortner added a putback and then Davis knocked down
a 3-pointer to make it 18-4. Camden Henry cut it to 18-6, but then Davis scored
off a steal to make it 20-6 at the half.
Davis went 4 for 4 from the line in the third quarter and
Kellan Craig added a putback, but Gilman City kept coming and getting the Shamrocks
in foul trouble, sending Dalton Guy to the bench with four. They got as close as
26-14 before Cole Hartschen drove to set up Meric Hansel to make it 28-14 after
three.
North Harrison put its starters back in, and Guy stayed on
the floor, avoiding his fifth foul. Gage Fortner got on the board, cleaning up
on a miss, and then Jensen Davis hit back to back jacks. Dalton Guy got on the
board down the stretch to push the margin over 20.
Jensen Davis had 24 points. Ryker Fortner had 6, Dalton Guy
5, and Meric Hansel and Gage Fortner 2 each.
Gage Fortner had 3 blocks; the Shamrocks had a ton as the
Hawks kept trying to attack the paint. Dalton Guy had 3, Ryker Fortner 1, and
Kellan Craig 1.
Cole Hartschen and Gage Fortner had 3 assists. Ryker Fortner
and Dalton Guy had 2.
Dalton Guy had 7 tips. Ryker Fortner had 3, Gage Fortner,
Kellan Craig, and Keaton Hill all had 2, and Jensen Davis had 1.
Ryker Fortner had 8 steals. Dalton Guy had 5, Gage Fortner
4, Jensen Davis 3, Cole Hartschen 2, and Keaton Hill, Eli Jacobs, Matt Richardson,
and Scotty Briggs all had 1.
