On October 21st, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department reported that a 1979 C60 grain truck driven by Alana Doolittle (16) of Kellerton was attempting to pull into the Coop in Mount Ayr when the brakes failed, causing her to enter the parking lot too fast. The vehicle flipped and came to rest on its roof. She was treated by Ringgold County EMS and released from the scene.
On October 24th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Logan Rainey (44) of King City alleging DWI and Speeding (75 mph).
On October 25th, the Bethany Republican-Clipper reported that the Humane Society of Missouri and the Missouri Department of Agriculture raided what they said were puppy mills across Missouri and rescued 106 dogs that they said were neglected, including 38 in Harrison County from someone they said was an unlicensed breeder. Among the dogs rescued were Labrador Retrievers, Boston Terriers, Poodle mixes, Cairn Terriers, and Yorkies. They were taken to the Humane Society’s facility in St. Louis, where they will receive veterinary care and put out for adoption.
On October 25th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Cody Olson (36) of McFall alleging DWI, Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident), and No Insurance.
On October 25th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against James Moses (65) of Shambaugh (IA) alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Felony), Possess Weapon & Felony Controlled Substance (Felony), and Driving While Suspended. Bond was set at $40,000, cash or corporate surety.
On October 25th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Gunner Lawrence (19) of Rosendale alleging DWI and Failure to Stop.
On October 25th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Michelle Riley (57) of Bedford alleging Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Person. Bond was set at $1,100, cash only. An affidavit from the Maryville Police Department alleges that the defendant made $1,036.10 worth of unauthorized charges from a bank account belonging to an elderly person who was under her care.
On October 25th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter field charges against Jason Saurbon (40) of Clarinda alleging Passing Counterfeit Bills. An affidavit from the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department alleges that on two occasions, the defendant gave a convenience store a fake $20 bill.
On October 25th, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced that his office had joined a coalition of 33 states in filing suit against Meta (Facebook) alleging that they designed and deployed harmful features in Facebook and Instagram to addict young users to its platform and enhance its bottom line. The suit alleges that Facebook concealed the severity of the psychological harm its site causes, including addiction to the platforms. The suit alleges that Facebook violated state consumer protection laws by assuring the public that its platforms are safe, but that its practices fuel what the US Surgeon General calls a youth mental health crisis which it says has prompted suicides, devastated families, and damaged a generation of young people. The suit alleges that Facebook further violated the federal law, specifically the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act when the company, knowing people under 13 were active on its platforms, collected data from those users without parental consent, identifying them as a valuable but untapped base, according to a 2021 Wall Street Journal article.
On October 26th, Sue Burgess (37) of Iola (KS) was ordered extradited from Gentry County to Allen County (KS) on a Bond Violation Warrant (Interference with Law Enforcement, Felon in Possession of Firearm). Bond was denied.
On October 27th, the Western Missouri District US Attorney’s Office reported that Federal Judge Greg Kays sentenced Harvey Johnson (50) of St. Joseph to 12 years in prison without parole after Johnson pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin in the St. Joseph area from September 1st, 2019 to March 26th, 2021. In a related case, Roderick Hughes (50) pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Traffic Drugs and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and received 17 years without parole on October 10th. In another related case, Franklin Hicks (43) of St. Joseph pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Traffic Drugs and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He is scheduled to be sentenced on November 1st, 2023.
On October 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Richard Ezell (63) of Clive (IA) in Harrison County on charges of Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Valid License. Harrison County Prosecutor Alex Van Zandt subsequently filed charges. Bond was set at $20,000, cash or corporate surety.
On October 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Trevor Weir (19) of Conception in Nodaway County on charges of Speeding (94 mph), Failure to Signal, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Minor in Possession, Minor Visibly Intoxicated, and Possession of False ID.
On October 28th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Paul Hoover (56) of Skidmore alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $10,000, cash or corporate surety.
On October 30th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Nicholas Radcliff (37) of Granger (IA) alleging DWI (Felony) and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).
On October 30th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Christopher Rodrigues (47) of Blockton alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).
On October 30th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Cynthia Stevens (51) of Maryville alleging Burglary (Felony) and Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $10,000, cash or corporate surety.
On October 30th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Bianca Beamgard (20) of Mount Ayr alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident) and No Insurance.
Charges listed are merely allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
