Kristin Herndon and the Knox College Prairie Fire bounced back big Saturday, taking an easy 89-44 win over Mount Mary (WI). Mount Mary was having a tough luck season at 4-10, but Knox had trouble earlier with putting teams away. This was not the case this time, as they jumped out to a 24-11 lead after one and outscored them in every quarter, avoiding the bad quarter to let them back in the game.
There are some teams you want to play after a loss, but Knox is not one of those teams, as they have won all four times after a loss this year.
Kristin Herndon had 13 points, 4 boards, and 2 blocks in the win. Teammate Dacio Sarina had her best game of the year, getting 21 points and five 3-pointers. The Prairie Fire got back to their winning formula as they got 13 different people involved in the scoring.
The Prairie Fire were destroyed on the boards by the University of Chicago in their previous game, but they totally turned it around in Saturday’s game, getting a season high 61 boards. Fourteen different players got involved in the rebounding, Catessa Duran had 11, Brianna Arizmendi 7, Franny Hillard and Loraya Rocha 6, and Juliana Vinluan and Madi Bunger 5 each. Kristin Herndon, normally the leading rebounder, had “only” 4, but that was a product of everybody else stepping up on the boards. They outrebounded Mount Mary 61-25.
Ball movement was another strong point for the Prairie Fire as they had 27 assists to only 13 turnovers. Juliana Vinluan had 6 assists, followed by Sophie Elstone and Kylee Callahan with 5 each.
