Kristin Herndon Update -- Prairie Fire Put On Clinic in Second Straight Win

Kristin Herndon and the Knox College Prairie Fire put on a clinic last Tuesday, January 3rd in their 89-54 win over Lake Forest as they finally returned home.

Previously, the Prairie Fire went to Chicago and suffered their worst defeat, 72-42 against the undefeated University of Chicago squad. But far from laying down, the Prairie Fire took it as a wakeup call, beating Mount Mary University the next day 89-44. Last Tuesday, the resurgence continued. Knox took a 26-15 after one and Lake Forest never got it under double digits after that. The Prairie Fire used a big third quarter to pull away after the Foresters tried to make a stand in the second.

After searching for consistency and having one bad quarter in most of their games to make most of their games interesting, the Prairie Fire avoided the bad quarter for the second game in a row, outscoring the Foresters in each quarter. Kristin Herndon was rock solid in consistency;  she had 16 points and 9 boards for the night. Teammates Sarina Dacio had 18, Sophie Elstone 13, and Kylee Callahan 12.

While the Prairie Fire had fewer turnovers (25-17) and more rebounds (41-35) than Lake Forest, the most lopsided statistic was in the assist category, where the Prairie Fire had 28 assists to four for Lake Forest. They put on a clinic in ball movement, resulting in a shooting percentage of over 53%. They outscored Lake Forest in the paint 48-24; while both sides were able to take the ball away, Knox took better advantage of their opportunities, outscoring Lake Forest 31-11 off turnovers. Strong bench play was another factor in the win; Knox outscored Lake Forest 22-3 and landed ten players in the scoring column.
