Jayliegh Robins, Erica Gerken to Anchor Shamrock Softball

The Shamrocks this year will be rock solid at pitcher and catcher. Erica Gerken will return to pitch for Coach Brandon Craig and Jayliegh Robins will return for her senior year to catch. Gerken can beat anyone on a given night; she struck out 14 South Harrison batters during town ball this year. She has a no hitter to her credit last year and one in junior high; she also finished a perfect game her freshman year.  Robins has hit close to .500 for her career and is capable of hitting it out of the yard and is one of the fastest players on the team.

The Shamrocks return a wealth of experience at infield. Jaci Davis will return at third base. Ruby Heintz, who has started since her freshman year, returns at shortstop. Trendi Johnson returns at second, while Kayka Wilson returns at first.

In the outfield, Amber Wilson returns to left field and Katelyn Briggs returns to right field. Briggs has gotten a lot faster this year; she was one of the quicker players from first to second on the baserunning drill last Tuesday. Halle Morgan could move to center; she has a lot of speed. The Shamrocks will have a big hole to fill there with the graduation of Camden Castleberry.

Several other players could figure into the mix. While Gerken is the main pitcher, Trendi Johnson or Andi Nail can step in when necessary. Craig tried Jaci Davis at catcher a couple of games, and saw a lot of good things out of her. Ruby Heintz can also catch.

At first base, Lily Owens and Andi Nail could see some time there. Kira Robertson posted the fastest time of anyone on the home to second running drill, so she could compete for an outfield slot. Natalie Parkhurst impressed a lot with her speed as well.
