Worth County Elementary Back to School Letter

Dear Parents of Elementary Students:

We are excited to begin the 2022/23 school year with your children. Please read through the following guidelines for this upcoming school year.

Open House: Our open house is on Thursday, August 18 from 5 pm - 6 pm. This time is for your children to bring in their supplies, find their desk and to meet their teacher.

Transportation:  Riding the bus is a privilege. Students must follow the same code of conduct that is in place for the school district. These rules help ensure safe bus transportation for students and the bus drivers. Students who violate these safety regulations may be excluded from riding the bus. Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from school if the child has been excluded from bus transportation.

Do not bring hazardous or destructive objects (i.e. firearms, weapons, explosives, sharp or pointed objects, lighters or matches) on the bus.

Parent drop off/pick up: Parents that will be dropping off their children for school need to wait until 8:05 to pull into the circle drive (after the buses unload) to drop them off. Parents picking up their children after school will need to pick them up in the circle drive after our buses have left and then Parents can pull around and we will send the children out accordingly.

Parties: Birthday and Holiday parties will be held, but we will only accept purchased packaged treats. Parents can either send them with their children or drop them off at the Elementary office.

Water Bottles: will not be provided this year. Children can use our water fountains for drinks or if you choose they can bring a water bottle from home.

Picture Day is set for August 30.  We will begin taking pictures around 8:15 on the 30th.  As the photographer takes the students' picture, the package the student is buying is written down. Therefore, we need the packets when students' pictures are taken.  That is why we ask that packets be returned before 8:15 on the 30th to help minimize the confusion of that morning.

Attendance: I want to emphasize how very important it is for your student to be at school every day and to be here on time as well. It is much easier for our teachers to begin class with all students present, seated and ready to go. Students who have a good attendance record generally achieve higher grades and enjoy school more. Students are allowed eight absences total (excused and unexcused) in a semester. Students need to provide a note or phone call to the elementary office after an absence. A doctor's excuse must be given to the principal for each day after the 8 days missed in either semester. If more than 8 days are missed in one semester and are not due to illness as proven by a doctor's excuse, then the proper legal authorities could be notified. Please plan vacations during school vacation time.

Teacher/Parent Communication and Meeting Time: I want to stress how important is to have communication between parents, teachers and administration. We are all working towards the same goal of helping students be successful. We have regular scheduled meetings and other important scheduled activities many days after school throughout the year. Meeting with teachers and the principal are very welcomed and we encourage them. In order to make this happen you must call the office and set a time to meet with the teacher/principal. Walk ins at the spur of the moment may not work for all parties involved.

Dress Code: Just reminder shorts must be longer than the end of your fingers when their arms are straight down at your side.

Cell Phones: Just a reminder that cell phones or other electronic devices are not allowed to be used during school hours without permission from a teacher or principal. If a student is using a cell phone or other electronic device without permission, the cell phone will be taken from the student and sent to the office with disciplinary action to follow and the parent or guardian will need to come to school to pick it up.

School website: Our school website address is wc.k12.mo.us.  You will find a lot of information on this website.  Included in the information will be the daily announcements for Elementary and High School, elementary and high school handbooks, school calendar, lunch menu, athletic team schedules, and activity practice schedule for junior high and high school.  Please visit our school website and take a few minutes to see the valuable school information listed there.

After School Help: If you feel your child needs extra help or a teacher feels your child needs extra help I strongly encourage one on one tutoring after school. This will be arranged on an as needed basis.

We look forward to working with you and your children again this year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call.

Elementary Principal
