Courthouse News for August 3rd, 2022

 On July 24th, a helicopter pilot, Oren Perkins of Abbeville (LA), was spraying fields near Clarinda when the blades clipped a power line, causing $270,000 worth of damages. The pilot was able to bring the helicopter back to a designated landing zone, where it landed without incident.

On July 26th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Elias Alarcon (17) of Maryville alleging DWI and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

On July 26th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Tammy Ballinger (51) of Belton (MO) alleging DWI, No Seat Belt, and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

On July 26th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Tyler Gaa (44) of Omaha alleging DWI.

On July 26th, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man with a gun in the Lenox City Park. The person was using a pellet gun in an attempt to shoot hawks. The matter was referred to the Iowa DNR.

On July 27th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Krystal Bowen (34) of Hopkins alleging three counts Child Abuse (Felony). Bond was set at $30,000, cash or corporate surety.

On July 27th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Christopher Nelson (33) of St. Joseph in Gentry County on a charge of No Seat Belt, a Missouri Department of Probation & Parole Warrant (Parole Violation), and a Gentry County Felony Warrant (Contempt of Court).

On July 27th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Brayden Hahn (17) of Stanberry alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident).

On July 28th, a Creston man reported that someone stole their pickup from their place while they were at the Union County Fair.

On July 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Terry Pollard (45) of Madison (WI) in Harrison County on two Perry County Warrants (Traffic Violations).

On July 28th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Melanie Myers (22) of Bethany alleging No Insurance (2nd or subsequent), No Valid License, Speeding, and Failure to Secure Child in Booster Seat.

On July 28th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department reported that a minor driver was driving around Tingley (IA) in a reckless manner without adult supervision in a 2003 Ford F150. They also allegedly had two other minor passengers in the vehicle. They then lost control, leaving 240th Avenue, skidded off the road, hit the ditch, overturned, and came to rest on the edge of a corn field. The driver and a passenger were taken to Ringgold County Hospital with injuries. The minor was charged with Reckless Driving and Violation of Instruction Permit.

On July 29th, a Hopkins woman reported a dog attacked her dog while she was out walking that morning, while a dog that was with the first dog was barking. 

On July 29th, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported that a 2014 Ford Fiesta driven by Alexis Lewis (20) of St. Joseph was southbound on Route A four miles south of St. Joseph at around 6:10 am and a 2017 Chevy 3500 driven by Joshua Gladieux (46) of Leavenworth was northbound. The Chevy crossed the centerline, traveling northbound in the southbound lane. The two vehicles tried to avoid each other, but had a head on collision the northbound lane. Two passengers in the Lewis vehicle, Alexander Brown (19) of St. Joseph and a 14 year old boy, were killed. Lewis was seriously injured and was lifeflighted to KU Medical Center, and Gladieux received minor injuries.

On July 29th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Kristin Taylor (34) of Albany alleging Possession of Controlled Substance.

On July 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Saidi Hassani (22) of Kansas City on a Clinton County Warrant for Failure to Appear (No Insurance).

On July 31st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Howard Demorion (20) of Fort Worth (TX) in Harrison County on a charge of Following Too Closely and a City of Fort Worth (TX) Warrant (Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon).

On July 31st, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department reported that there were reports of stolen vehicles in and around Ringgold County. The reports from neighboring counties include big vehicles, little vehicles, and standard cars and pickups. Consistent among the reports is that vehicles were not locked and keys were in them.  

On August 1st, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Blake Corum (41) of Ridgeway alleging Violation of Protection Order.

On August 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Terry Whited (47) of Dublin (TX) in Harrison County on a Cass County Warrant (Excessive Weight).

On August 2nd, a water main break knocked water out in Hopkins.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
