This office had information that Gurardo Gutierrez was hiding out at a residence in Hopkins.  A warrant was issued in Iowa for Gutierrez alleging that he was a felon in possession of a firearm and that he displayed the weapon during an assault. Gutierrez was suspected of being armed while in hiding.

Nodaway County Deputies conducting the investigation observed a blue 2008 Ford Explorer pull into the residence in Hopkins and several individuals went inside.  Moments later the same subjects left with Gutierrez.  The registration on the vehicle checked to a person with a St. Joseph address.  Deputies followed the vehicle and coordinated with each other to plan a felony car stop.  Deputies were in place along the perceived route to use tire deflation devices in the event that the driver failed to pull over.

At about 6:48 PM Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver failed to yield and increased speed.  A pursuit was started.  The vehicle turned off of Hwy 148 before reaching the tire deflation devices.  The suspect car abruptly stopped on Imperial Road jut north of 177th Street and the occupants attempted to run.  Fortunately, the suspects failed to consider several things in their attempt to escape.

1. Its August and the corn is very tall making a run for it difficult.

2. It’s hot, real hot.
