Worth County Names Three Subs, Two Extra Duty Positions

The Worth County School Board named two extra duty positions and named three new substitute teachers at their Thursday board meeting. Ryan Hutchcraft was named Head Boys Golf Coach, while Jonell Cook was named to FACS. Named as non-certified subs were Darcy Dannar, Timothy Richardson, and Mark Fletcher. Abby Hern began her first meeting as the new school board secretary.

The board was given an update from Concrete Revival, the firm that did the flooring work for the school this summer. Materials to complete the project will come in October, and they will subsequently complete the work.

The scheduled structural track respray was completed last week, and the stripe repainting will happen later this fall.

Cree Beverlin introduced himself to the school board. He is new to the district and talked about his work teaching high school social studies as well as coaching track and football.

The board will receive ESSER III federal funding in spring 2022, but can implement the plan right away. The district plans to spend it on improving learning and teaching as well as other COVID related expenses.

There are currently 270 students enrolled at Worth County, with the largest class being 27 students in the fourth grade. A long range planning committee is in the process to come up with facility needs over the next 1-10 years.

The board approved the contract with ACES to provide diagnostic services, consultation, training, public awareness, and other support for the district.

The board renewed a resolution from the previous school year designating school employees as essential.

Elementary Principal Chuck Borey reported that enrollment for his building was 142 students. Art, PE, Library, Keyboarding, and Band and Music classes will now be giving grades. The PTO agreed to supply hand sanitizers, Clorox wipes, and Kleenex for the teachers.

High School Principal Jon Adwell reported that multiple schools, including Northwest, NCMC, Missouri Western, MU, UMKC, and Iowa State were recruiting at the school. Financial Aid night will be on October 6th. Juniors and seniors will go to the college fair at Northwest on October 13th. The students were participating in Homecoming.
