Former North Nodaway PE teacher, AD, and basketball coach Jake Shipman, now the High School Principal at Mound City, is looking different wearing purple, but he said Friday that he is enjoying his new surroundings. He said it was a challenge to adjust to a new set up duties as the principal, but that the students and staff were buying in. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with,” he said.
Shipman turned the boys basketball and baseball programs into solid programs; in 2015, Shipman coached the boys basketball program to its first tournament title in 50 years when the Mustangs won the Platte Valley Invitational. “That was a fun year,” he said a few years afterwards. “I hope it’s not another 50 years before we win another tournament.”
Shipman says he is happy to see the students at North Nodaway continuing to work hard and have athletic and academic success.
