Dorthy Marie (Barcus) Fluke was born February 13, 1935 south of Mound City, Missouri to Earl Barcus and Edith Martha (McCullah) Barcus. Dorthy graduated from Pickering High School and then attended Northwest Teacher's College in Maryville, Missouri. Following her graduation from College she taught at Northboro, Iowa.
Dorthy was united in marriage to Glen Fluke on June 11, 1961 at the Clearmont, Missouri Methodist Church. The couple then settled on a farm southeast of Bedford and she began teaching 2nd grade in Blockton, Iowa. Dorthy then taught 2nd grade for several years in Bedford.
Dorthy and Glen were blessed with the love of their life, Glenda Marie Fluke, on October 1, 1967. Dorthy, Glenda and Glen enjoyed the farm life. Through the years they were involved in many activities together including the Bedford Saddle Club, Wagoneers, and The Pony Express. They were also a members of the Bedford United Methodist Church where Dorthy taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the choir.
Dorthy was a wonderful cook and always enjoyed tending a large garden. She loved to can vegetables and share her bountiful harvest with others. Dorthy also enjoyed listening to country music.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Fluke; father, Earl Barcus; mother, Edith Barcus; step-mother, Nora Barcus; and brother, Edward Barcus.
Dorthy is survived by her daughter, Glenda Marie Fluke; brother, Jim (Sue) Barcus of Hopkins, Missouri; sister, Edna Bowen of Austin, Texas; along with many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
