The Grant City Star of March 9th, 1876 listed the following businesses that were operating:

The reason there were so many lawyers in town was because there was a problem with people buying land, running up debts, and then absconding. There were 12 summonses by mail published in the Star that issue alone against defendants who had fled. Land in Worth County in 1876 cost anywhere from $4.50 to $30 an acre.
