One person was killed and 10 people were injured in accidents that happened over New Year's Eve throughout the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop H region. While Sheridan was only lightly hit with snow, some other areas were hit harder by a snowstorm that passed through.
At 5:40 p.m. on Interstate 35 December 31st, the Patrol reports that a 2005 Freightliner tractor and trailer driven by John Moss of Jackson, TN was southbound on I-35 nine miles south of Bethany, MO, left the west side of the road, traveled down an embankment, and came to rest upright. Moss was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The freightliner was totaled and was towed from the scene.
Another accident happened at the 136/EE intersection four miles east of Maryville at 2:05 p.m. The Patrol reports that a 2001 Hyundai passenger car driven by Tanya Dreher, 22, of Maryville was stopped at a stop sign at Route EE and 136. A 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Monica Bodle, 51, of Ravenwood was eastbound on 136. The Hyundai pulled into the path of the Cherokee and the Cherokee struck the Hyundai in the driver side door. The vehicles both traveled off the south side of the roadway. The Jeep struck a utility pole. Both vehicles came to rest upright. Dreher received serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. Bodle received minor injuries. A passenger in the Bodle vehicle, Robert Bodle, also received minor injuries. The Hyundai was totaled and was towed from the scene. The Jeep received extensive damage and was also towed from the scene. All three people were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Another accident happened on 71 one quarter of a mile south of 370th street five miles northwest of Barnard at around 12:20 p.m. The Patrol reports that a 1999 Chevy Tracker driven by Anthony Rutt, 24, of Maryville was southbound on 71 and began rounding a curve, lost traction, and traveled into the median. The vehicle began overturning, coming to rest on its wheels facing northwest. Rutt received minor injuries and was driven to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The Tracker was totaled and was towed from the scene.
