Polo and Braymer have been approved to join the HDC starting next year, the Bethany Republican-Clipper and the Princeton Post-Telegraph reported. Polo was approved for an immediate full membership. Braymer will be on a two-year probationary period; they were expelled from their previous conference following allegations of unsportsmanlike conduct from players, fans, and coaches. Braymer subsequently passed sportsmanship regulations calling for automatic four-game suspensions for players or fans engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct. The Polo school board voted to switch from 11-man football to 8-man football following a shrinking roster and thin numbers of junior high players coming up the ranks.
The move will mean that HDC teams will have an easier time scheduling games; there were some cases in which teams were scheduling duplicate games with other conference schools due to having trouble finding other games to schedule. For instance, Gilman City scheduled a second game with Mercer this year. However, it will create travel issues for some teams, since Braymer and Polo are a long ways away from the rest of the conference.
