Owen Martin, Ridge Clements Step Up for Mustangs Second Win

North Nodaway's boys were shorthanded Friday, playing without Mason Casner and Blaine Clements, but Owen Martin and Ridge Clements stepped up in a big way, leading the Mustangs to a 59-41 win over East Harrison. Jordan DeLeon also had double figures and nine Mustangs entered the scoring column.

Jordan DeLeon started off the game with a three point play and then Ridge Clements finished a drive to make it 5-0. East Harrison hung around for a while; there were only six players dressed out, but they were quick and they kept coming at North Nodaway all night. But then the dam broke late in the first when Jordan DeLeon scored from inside and Owen Martin and Ridge Clements scored off steals to make it 17-5 after one.

DeLeon drove the left baseline early in the second to make it 19-7, and then Trevin Wyllie dove on the floor for a defensive rebound, got it to Kaeden Nave, who threw to Martin for a finish. Kaeden Nave then got on the board for three after Martin fed him a pass to make it 24-7. Martin then went coast to coast and fed Ridge Clements for a finish, Jordan DeLeon kicked one to Trevin Wyllie for a finish, Owen Martin scored, and then Ridge Clements scored four straight as the Mustangs led by as much as 35-12 before the Bobcats closed with four straight to make it 35-16 at the half.

Both Aiden James and Weston Alexander came off the bench during the game starting in the second and gave the Mustangs some quality minutes.

Jordan DeLeon hit two free throws and Kaeden Nave got loose in transition to start the Mustangs' scoring in the second half. Owen Martin hit five straight to make it 44-18 and then spent the rest of the quarter setting up everyone else, getting eight assists in the game. Jordan DeLeon got an inside shot off a pass from Ridge Clements, and then Owen Martin fed Kaeden Have for three, Trevin Wyllie in transition, and Aiden James and Weston Alexander for three to make it 57-21 before North Nodaway called off the dogs and subbed freely the rest of the night. Draven Rowland and Robbie Forney got on the board for the Mustangs down the stretch.

The difference for the Mustangs was the turnover battle. The starters turned it over 22 times in the Worth County game, but only seven times in the East Harrison game. As a team, the Mustangs stole the ball only four times against Worth County, but stole it 16 times against the Bobcats.
