Max Hiatt Shuts the Door on Wildkats

Max Hiatt shut down King City in 9-11 year old action Friday as the Tigers raised their record to 9-2 this year. A new generation of Hiatt kids is coming up to play for the Tigers in future years. Kevin Hiatt was a standout runningback in the 1970’s. Brock, Jordan, and Kyler Hiatt were standout football players for the Tigers in the 2000’s. Now, Max is continuing the tradition as he works his way up through the ranks.

Worth County got off to a rocky start as starting pitcher Jace Mullock fought the strike zone and King City scored two runs. But he was helped when catcher Gunnar Smith tagged a runner out attempting to come home on a wild pitch.

The Tigers got the runs back and more in their half of the first. Mason Gray and Gunnar Smith had the big blows in the inning, with Gray hitting a single and Gunnar Smith hitting a double. Paul Hoff, Mason Gray, and Lane Pickering scored on wild pitches.

In the second, King City got one run back on a wild pitch and another back on a throwing error. But then Max Hiatt came in with runners on at second and third with nobody out and struck out the next three batters to preserve the Tiger lead.

King City put their best pitcher in, and he threw the Tiger batters off in the second. But once again, Hiatt held the fort as he allowed runners to get to second and third with nobody out, only to strike out the next three batters again.

Hiatt helped himself out with a single to start the Tiger third, and he stole second. Mason Gray singled him home and he would come around to score on a wild pitch to give Worth County some badly needed insurance runs. King City got the tying run to the plate in the fourth, but Max Hiatt struck out his ninth batter of the game to close the door for the Tigers.
