Dylan McIntyre Tosses One Hitter as Bluejays Shut Out Northland Christian

Northeast Nodaway started off their home tournament strong Saturday with an 8-0 shutout of Northland Christian Saturday as Dylan McIntyre tossed a complete game one hit shutout and fanned 13 batters. Northland dropped their first five games, but after being run ruled the first two times, they were in their next three. They finally broke through against Santa Fe and South Holt, coming into Saturday’s games with a two game winning streak. They turned out to have solid pitching, but they also had the tendency to give up the one bad inning.

Dylan McIntyre started off the Bluejays in the top of the first with a single to left center, scoring Ben Boswell to make it 1-0 after Boswell got a scratch hit and Lane Dack walked. Northland failed to score in their half of the first when Caden Monnig drew a 3-2 walk, but Colton Swalley threw him out stealing.

The bad inning for the Trailblazers came in the second after they walked the number eight and nine Bluejay hitters with one out, Boston Adwell and Landon Wilmes. Ben Boswell walked to load the bases. Lane Dack struck out for the second out, but Colton Swalley singled after the left fielder made a diving attempt and missed, scoring three runs. Swalley circled the bases after Northland threw it around trying to get it back in, making it 5-0. Auston Pride walked on a 3-2 pitch and Dylan McIntyre singled to center. They went to second and third on a wild pitch, and Grant McIntyre singled to center to score both and make it 7-0.

The Bluejays threatened to score again as they put Landon Wilmes on third and Ben Boswell on second with one out in the third. Lane Dack hit a fly ball to Dontae Burch in center and Wilmes tried to score, but Burch gunned him down at the plate to keep the Bluejays off the board in the third. That play seemed to spark Northland, who held Northeast to one run the rest of the way.

The only tense part was whether Dylan McIntyre could complete a no-hit bid. Carter Dalton finally broke up Dylan’s no hit bid in the fifth when he led off with a double past Landon Wilmes in right. Joseph Winkler and Seth Martin struck out, but Sam Gliser hit a shot up the middle that would have broken the shutout. But shortstop Ben Boswell gloved it on the second base side and threw it to first in time to get the third out.

Northeast loaded the bases in the sixth and Lane Dack came home on a wild pitch to start the sixth. Dylan McIntyre walked to load the bases, but a fluke play killed the rally as Grant McIntyre hit a hard smash, but right at the third baseman who knocked it down. That set up a home and third double play that killed the rally.

With one out, back to back Northland walks in the seventh by Josh Judson and Carter Dalton threatened the shutout with one out. They pulled off a successful double steal, but Dylan McIntyre struck out the next two batters to preserve the shutout.
