Obituary -- Fred Barnes 1942-2021

Fred Barnes, 78, Albany, MO passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his home.

Freddie (Fred) Elwood Barnes was born December 2, 1942, on a farm south of Oxford, Missouri, to James and Helen Louise (Roberts) Barnes. He attended grade school in a one room school house, Concord & Oxford. Fred graduated in 1960 from Grant City High (Worth County).

Upon graduation, he attended Gards Business College in St. Joseph. In March of 1961, he began employment as a parts manager for Lawson Truck & Equipment in Stanberry. He remained there until retirement in March 2005, completing 44 years of service. He was known for his outstanding knowledge and memory regarding Case IH International Harvester truck and farm equipment.

After retirement from Lawson’s, Fred’s work never ended. He enjoyed working part time for Derr Equipment in Maryville, two car dealerships in Albany, and mowing yards for TLC Group Home. He was so good to also assist his sister, Jody, with delivering supplies to summer school programs in Northwest Missouri, as well as volunteering his services to assist Gentry County wards of the court.

Fred was a member of the Pizz Ridge Indian Head Campground where he served as their president until death. His favorite place to be was spending time at Pizz Ridge, camping and visiting with his dear friends, Lorene Harris, Marilyn Pritchett, John Tiemann, and all other camping members.

Fred loved attending bluegrass music festivals and local opries for many years. In February, he was excited to be able to attend Rhonda Vincent’s induction in the Grand Ole Opry. He always enjoyed driving places to see the countryside.

Preceded in death, whom he lived with and cared for during their lifetime, James Allen Barnes and Helen (Louise) Roberts Barnes. Also preceded in death, Kip Gerard Stoll.

Survivors include sister, Jody (Barnes) Novak and his niece Jennee (Barnes) Gregory who he so loved, and her husband, David Gregory, all of Albany. Uncle Elwood Barnes of Waterloo, Iowa, and cousin Helen Marie Myers (Steve) and family (Mark and Carla). Step survivors include Jordan Stoll (Kevin) and Jolie Mae, Chris Novak (Bobbie), Elizabeth, Emma and Ella. Also, Tara Novak Lynch (Jason), Paige and PJ.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 at Roberson Funeral Home, Stanberry, MO. Burial will follow in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, MO. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pizz Ridge Indian Head Campground in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O.
