Courthouse News for July 21st, 2021

Recently, the Elks Tiny Library in front of Hopkins City Hall was vandalized.

On June 21st, a Delphos woman reported to the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department that various household and shop related items were stolen from her residence.

On July 13th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Enrique Garza (59) of Laredo (TX) on two Harrison County Misdemeanor Warrants.

On July 13th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Becky Goacher (52) of Sheridan in Worth County on an Atchison County Warrant for Probation Violation. 

On July 13th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested John Briley (58) of Crawford (AR) in Nodaway County on an Arkansas Board of Parole Warrant  (Probation Violation), a Boone County Warrant (Property Damage), and No Valid License.

On July 13th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Alejandro Rivera-Rodriguez (42) of San Antonio (TX) alleging DWI, Speeding, and No Valid License.

On July 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Jesse Branstetter (25) of Winston alleging Failure to Drive on Right half of Roadway (Accident).

On July 14th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Nathan Blane (45) of Hopkins alleging DWI and Intentionally Inhaling the Fumes of Solvents.

On July 14th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Seth Drawbaugh (25) of Blythedale in Harrison County on charges of DWI, No Valid License, Speeding, and No Seat Belt.

On July 14th, the Nodaway County Health Department reported that a bat had tested positive for rabies in the county. 

On July 14th, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department announced a new partnership between it and the US Marshals Service. Deputies who were sworn in as Special Deputy Marshals for the Midwest Violent Crime Task Force were Dalton Murphy, Travis Cochenour, and Austin Hann.

On July 14th, the Muscatine County (IA) Sheriff’s Department reported that Daniel Slack (68) and his wife, Sharon, of El Dorado Springs (MO) were killed in a plane crash four miles north of Muscatine (IA). Slack had served as a superintendent for Cainsville.

On July 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Roger Fletchall (58) of Sheridan alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On July 15th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Roy Criss (68) of Clive (IA) alleging DWI and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On July 15th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Tisa McGuire (38) of Unionville alleging DWI.

On July 15, 2021, Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle for traveling 38 miles per hour in a 25 zone on west Van Buren in Lenox. The driver, James Michelson, 28, of Creston, was found to be suspended. Michelson was taken into custody and held on $300 bond until seen by a Magistrate. He was additionally cited for speeding. 

On July 15th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Jaiden Wheat (20) in Nodaway County on a charge of Failure to Register and a Buchanan County Warrant (Failure to Register). 

On July 16th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Keagan Bozicevich (22) of Shakopee (MN) in Harrison County on charges of Speeding, DWI, Resisting Arrest (Felony), Possession of Heroin (Felony), and Unlawful Use of Paraphernalia. He was subsequently charged by Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer.

On July 16th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Donald Gillespie (58) of Grant City on charges of DWI (Persistent), Failure to Place Vehicle Not in Motion as Far Right as Practicable, and No Headlights.

On July 16th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Thomas Crabtree (68) of Bethany alleging Domestic Assault.

On July 16th, multiple charges were filed against people in conjunction with the Duck Boat Tragedy that occurred in 2018 by Stone County Prosecutor Matt Selby and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. The probable cause statement alleges that on the afternoon of July 19th, 2018, Stretch Duck #7 entered Table Rock Lake despite a severe thunderstorm warning, encountered severe weather, and sunk, resulting in the death of 17 people. The statement alleges that Captain Scott McKee failed to exercise his duties as a captain, which the prosecutors say led to the deaths. He allegedly failed to follow policies and training by not having passengers affix flotation devices as the boat took on water. Operations Supervisor Charles Baltzell and General Manager Curtis Lanham allegedly failed to communicate weather conditions and cease operations during a severe thunderstorm warning.

Stone County Prosecutor Matt Selby and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt filed charges against Captain Scott McKee alleging 17 counts First Degree Involuntary Manslaughter (Felony), and 12 counts Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony). They filed charges against Operations Supervisor Charles Baltzell alleging 17 counts Involuntary Manslaughter (Felony). They also filed charges against General Manager Curtis Lanham alleging 17 counts Involuntary Manslaughter (Felony). 

On July 17th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Gary Gann (48) of Maryville alleging Domestic Assault (Felony). Bond was denied.

On July 18th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Jacob Barnes (30) of Fort Smith (AR) alleging DWI and Careless & Imprudent Driving.

On July 18th, a Sheridan woman reported that someone was stealing vegetables from her garden.

On July 19th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Edward Baker (45) of Maryville alleging Assault (Felony) and Domestic Assault (Felony).

On July 19th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Cobra Wright (40) of Maryville alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). 

On July 19th, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department posted the following news release about a Clearmont man arrested on child pornography charges:

A Nodaway County Deputy received a complaint that a Clearmont man was in possession of child pornography on his “iPhone”.  The Sheriff’s Department conducted an investigation and obtained a search warrant for the phone.  A forensic exam was conducted on the device.  More than 30 sexually explicit images of children, and a sexually explicit video of a child, was found on the device.  

Prosecuting Attorney Caleb Phillips charged Mathew Vollintine, age 24, with Possession of Child Pornography, 1st Offense, a Class D Felony.

On July 19th, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department posted the following news release about a Trenton man arrested on child molestation charges:

This office opened a child molestation investigation that took place several years ago in Clearmont, MO.  During the course of the investigation, two female children made disclosures during  forensic interviews.  The Detective submitted a probable cause statement to Prosecuting Attorney Caleb Phillips.  A warrant was issued for Steven W Leivan, age 38, of Trenton.  He has been charged with two counts each of the following:

Child Molestation 1st Degree

Child Molestation 2nd Degree of a child less that 12 years of age.

Leivan is currently being held on these charges in the Nodaway County Jail. 

On July 19th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Summer Cook (48) of Panama City (FL) alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
